Think it through. Do you *really* think that costs can be ignored?
If someone said that a single life could be saved if, say, the UK
economy paid 10 billion quid, would you agree to it?

 

I think the actual number used in this sort of calculation
is about a million quid. Any of the rail bods here know?

That's also a very extreme example though.

Michael Moore in the US, once showed a case of a Merkin, that had been
paying his health insurance and he came down with a terminal case of
something. The insurance co didn't want to pay out, because it cost
too much money. Their excuse was basically a "contract get out
clause."

MM went to the HQ of said InsCo and invited the management to the
funeral, showed the coffin, etc, etc and eventually they relented.

If your example came up, then maybe there would be enough 'good
people' in the world that could make a difference. I'm not naïve, but
can be accused of being a dreamer in the faith of humankind. But
reality always bites...

 

Sigh, on a personal level, if I could pay, I would, but I can't.

On an economical level as shown by your example, that will never
happen.

Don't worry 'bout it Champ, we'll not agree on this. I still have a
belief (maybe naïvely) that humankind isn't all bad and that
somewhere, someone can make a difference.

 

Then I'm afraid you are in for a big disappointment..
