Old Story (I think)

I believe that I have posted this little story on this group several years
ago..LOL.. For the benefit of the newcomers on this newsgroup, I think I
will do it again.. Seems to be appropriate, at this time..

Several years ago, about six, I think.. One of my old friends, my son and me
went to Brady, Tx. to attend a motorcycle rally.. Once there, we joined
other old friends from various parts of the state, some of whom we had known
    twenty or more years..

The poker run was something like 150 miles and included many of the small
county roads.. On one of these roads we passed a guy pushing a Vespa
scooter.. When I saw the sticker on his headlight, I realized that he was
one of "ours".. He was involved in the poker run.. I stopped and offered to
help.. He was out of gas.. and refused my offer to siphon some from my tank
to get him to the next gas stop.. He pointed to a little country store about
a quarter or half mile up the road.. As we passed the store, it didn't
appear to have any gas.. So .. I stopped again..

Well this old boy got there pretty quick.. This guy was amazing to me.. His
entire manner was cheerful.. he waved at everyone passing him and his smile
was wide and infectious.. Sure 'nuff.. that little store had NO gas.. I
repeated my offer to siphon and he laughed and told me not to worry.. watch
this.. The guy picked up four pint bottles of rubbing alcohol off the shelf,
which was all that little store had.. He poured a couple of them in the tank
of that Vespa, while I watched in amazement..

That little Vespa fired .. backfired.. spluttered and spit..but it ran.. We
stood there and watched while that happy dude, mounted it and tore off down
the road..We followed him to the next little town where he filled his tank
with gasolene .. For the rest of the poker run, we passed and repassed this
guy several times.. Each time he was laughing and waving .. having more fun
than anyone..This guy was enjoying himself, his ride and the fellowship of
all of us.. We were in perpetual amazement at his good spirits and his
enjoyment.. All of us shared enjoyment in his fellowship..

The entire weekend, I observed this man ..while he participated in that
rally.. No one around him could resist being caught up in his happiness and
    good cheer..

The rally was over and we all commenced the long rides home.. On the
outskirts of Brownwood, guess who we rode up on.. Our friend on the Vespa..
still rolling merrily down the highway.. still waving and laughing.. still
spreading that good cheer and fellowship.. This guy never exceeded speeds of
over 40 mph, I'm sure.. I talked to him for a bit, at a gas stop in
Brownwood.. He was from Palestine, Tx. He'd made that ride to Brady by
himself.. He was riding home alone also.. I was thinking while we talked "My
God.. here is a REAL biker".. That is the kind of people this "motorcycle
enthusiasts world", is all about.. We all have our own reasons for being
addicted to our magnificent two wheels.. Too soon, we forget about the REAL
meaning of why we share our enthusiasm .. .

  4. Hey, Aint a Vespa about a 60cc?
I agree, that probably was an interesting site to see. A feller like
that, ain't a bit worried what some other feller thinks about HIM! I
like that......Say..have any of ya ever rode a Honda Silver Wing, 600cc.
Well, don't ever think that's a pansey Motor shooter. That "dude" will
    move out.
My wife and I rode one the other day, and that "dude" will go from 0 to
75 pretty quick. It reminds you of riding in a VW, someWhat. If I was
well off, I'd have me wanna them skooters, along with my real
    motor'sikel........<G> bjay

Danged if I know.. bjay.. I felt sorry for that dude, when he was pushing it
down the shoulder of that road.. He just laughed and told me not to worry,
if he got tired, he'd just pick it up and carry it.. LOL
Hey bud.. that guy enjoyed that rally more than anyone there.. They even
gave him a trophy for something or other.. He didn't care what he was
riding, it had two wheels and it belonged to him.. He thoroughly enjoyed
everyone at that rally and everyone HAD to like him..LOL

....Say..have any of ya ever rode a Honda Silver Wing, 600cc.
I haven't ridden one.. bjay.. Is it one of the new models from Honda, or
what ? I owned a Honda Silverwing 650 back in the early eighties.. It was a
small version of the GoldWing.. Nice little bike.. Good to see ya'.. Catch
    you later, big guy..
