Old Road police abuse - one for the MCC...

    Hey folks,

On Friday afternoon I drove (yes, had 2 passengers so would've been a tad
illegal on the XX) to Port Macquarie, taking the Old Road north. At
precisely 17:15 we were passing Pie in the Eye (Sky) on the left bend - and
at the speed limit of course (right Cam??). :p Suddenly a patrol car
(Ford XR8 or something similar) appeared, absolutely flying towards us up
the hill (southbound). He must have been doing 150+ and passed us, gunning
it and throwing the rear out on the Pie corner, no lights flashing. Clearly
this guy could drive and was having a fine old time.

We had previously seen a few cyclists and speculated at the carnage had they
been southbound near the southern entrance to the cafe there.

Anyway, after the hammering the cops have been dishing out, I was suitably
pissed to phone Hornsby Police - really just to give them a serve and
hopefully get it on record if it's of use in future negotiations on related
matters (though they'll have prob. forgotten it by now...).

The woman at least gave the appearance of being upset and wrote down the
details (including my name of course). I said there were plenty of
witnesses and clearly this guy was massively breaking the law and having a
ball using resources paid for by yours truly. Not only that, but he was
clearly endangering the lives of others. She agreed it didn't look good and
that their job was to set an example blah blah.

Anyway, I felt better and it will be interesting to see if anything is done
to me - the police have been known to look after themselves...

    Cheers,
    Dave E (Sydney)

Did you get a numberplate? Probably not able to given the
description... but bet they deny it. Or else "that officer is on
leave" and 3 months later no one remembers anything.

Passed on to the MCC anyway.

    Hi Zebee,

not a chance at the speed he was driving at - appeared to be a guy.

We all distinctly remember him gunning it around the corner breaking rear
    traction.

    Not an "A-Grade" example eh?

    Cheers,

Funny.. in the 70's hardly anyone had cameras and videos but they always
seemed to snap or tape UFOs... 30 years later just about everyone has a
video camera in their pocket, and noone can snap UFOs, or XR8s.. :p

    Hi Cam,

there's not the slightest dent or blemish in my halo *glances heavenward*...

At least I'm not plastered in law enforcement motifs when I have my 'fun'...
(maybe plastered occassionally... at least when not on the road!). :)

Yes indeed. Actually I had a fellow photographer in the car with about 5
cameras at the time too. Hope I'm quicker photographing the MotoGP in a few
    weeks! :)

On a similar vein, was stopped at lights today and a paddy wagon was on the
opposite side with two coppers inside. The guy driving was having a
hilarious conversation on his mobile phone.
I know they are allowed to use them for work related calls while driving and
if working for the police is so much fun...I want in.
    Good example......Bah!

Great photo opportunity eh? Makes me want to carry a tiny pocket camera
around and blaze away whenever such opportunities present themselves. Of
course, to be fair and balanced, I would have to include the odd image of me
being naughty just to please Cam... :)
