Sorting out some photos, I came across these two - I've no idea where I
    got them from originally.

    This one:
    http://www.globalnet.co.uk/~users/pattle/nacc/gallery/pnsv.html
has "1950s 50cc race Blandford" pencilled on the back. Since the bike
appears to be an NSU-Vincent Fox 98, I think that the writing is not to
    be relied upon.

    The second:
    http://www.globalnet.co.uk/~users/pattle/nacc/gallery/punk.html
has "Itom? Castle Combe" written in the same hand - so I'll treat that
with the same degree of scepticism.

So: who, what, where, when? Any ideas?

    Blandford?

I know there used to be a race circuit very close to, or as a part of,
the Army Camp there because we lived there from 1962 to 1966 while the
old man was teaching at the School of Signals. He told me about it later
    on in my life.

  4. The circuit ran round part of the camp. Both car and motor cycle racing
there stopped fairly soon after somebody's racing car came to rest
on the guardroom roof. There were pictures of it in most of the papers at
the time. 500cc Cooper I think it was.

  6. I *always* cut-'n'-paste any URL I post from the address bar of
a browser window displaying the page in question. Cuts down on errors.
Except when I get my ^Cs and ^Vs mixed up...

In the bad winter of 62/63 my dad rolled his almost new Ford Classic -
reg 29 RU - down a steep bank after losing control at low speed on ice.
The car went over at least three times and came to rest on its wheels on
a section of the old race track. After getting all the other 3 occupants
out, my dad and his Corporal, Stu Dawson, checked the car over and
couldn't find a bit of damage anywhere.

Just seen the Raleigh Wisp. Forgotten just what they looked like. FiL
had one, eventually banished to the shed. Its successor, a different
make, was also known as the Wisp. Despite the lack of power or very much
else, I still managed to almost put myself under a car on it. Saved by
    timely dabbing.

I really ought to dig out the photo of self on a BSA Dandy c1965.
Monochrome, of course. A vile machine.

Just add Photoshop and you could produce an ultra-cool tinted effect
rather like Bob Carlos-Clarke did in the late Seventies with Bike
magazine (and some Girlie mags I believe).

Ah, but, if I did that, it would have said:
    file:///C:/My%20Documents/Globalnet%20Web%20Site/nacc/gallery/pnsv.html
which, while it works perfectly on my computer, would have been hooter
    all use to anyone else.

  14. AFAIR the Cooper on the guardroom roof looked perfect as well. Blandford
must have employed very efficient guardian angels in an attempt to make up
for the ghastly bleakness of the place in winter.

  15. Your ISP lets you host your own Web server?

I should have elaborated, of course, "...displaying the page in
question via a publicly accessible route."

    Pendant!

Dad said the bank they rolled down was about 4 foot deep with snow at
the time, that's why there was no damage.

I did a few years there whilst serving in the Royal Corps
(mid eighties), and there were a few photos etc about the
old circuit in the School of Sigs museum. This inspired a
few of us to try and recreate those halcyon days...

The obvious result was me in hospital for a few weeks...!

    ah the good old days!
