I'm in the USA and we here in the state of PA we have basically people
getting their licenses and going out and buying crotch rockets and going
a bat out of hell on our highways like doing 90 miles an hour in a 65
speed limit and what most of them don't realize is what can occur at
that speed ,for in the last year we have had a couple different serious
bike accidents one a kid was lost control of his bike went flying and
got literally his arm and leg taken off all because of a small
imperfection in the roadand another not too far from here came out of a
side road onto a main road without stopping and probably nothing will
happen I'm fast ,well lets just say the side of the cement truck that
went past at that moment he slammed into had other ideas .
Some people thinks I'm sick for bringing this stuff up but it happened
and now they can no longer ride all because they didnt see what may or
could happen ,they didn't understand that most highways no matter how
well maintained they are do get minor imperfections which effects the
bike and those effects are multiplied by the how fast they go and
another thing is if they are going along and happen to hit something
laying on the road they lay it down or high side and then here comes his
buddy a few seconds behind him he has no time to stop so he goes down
too along with some of their other buddies all because they were going
excessively faster than the speed limit .
I wish these guys would sit back and think what is the worse possible
thing that could happen and adjust their riding according to the
situation ,for i would like to see them on a bike not a wheelchair or in
    a coffin.

Or alternatively, everyone has the right to do anything they choose as
long as they don't harm anyone else.

    I think it might.

With 70 as limit, folk seem to be able to settle for three or four times
the limit, but, if the limit is dropped to 60 I suspect a few will put
in a special effort for five times the limit.

  9. Work vehicle - for fast running of transects in areas too confined for a
4WD. Saves lots of walking. Comes seriously unstuck in mountainous
    black-soil terrain, when wet.

Okay, the original post is BS.

Confirmed via the Old Road Safety Group, which are the group that
actually talks to the RTA, police & MCC.

They've been no decided changes as yet.

that will be a given until people stop riding motorcycles

    or get some training................

the Old Road is like a B group at a track day - those who think they are
faster than what they are - and the most dangerous

OK, so no one needs to indicate a lane change, or use brake lights. Or
stop at stop signs or red lights. and using a mobile is OK, as is
talking to the passenger and not looking at the road.

Only if these actions actually cause a crash should the person be
    punished for them.

Is that what you are saying?

So Gerry, I don't blame anyone for anything yet I certainly don't agree
with you on this subject - care to distinguish why I don't fit into your
    two convenient boxes ?

IMNSHO The RTA don't set speed limits appropriately to the roads - I can
give a number of examples of roads with too HIGH a speed limit, as well
as a number which are too low. Furthermore what you call a defensive
riding style differs dramatically from what every expert on the subject
(that's REAL experts with formal qualifications and practical
experience) would describe as defensive driving.

I ride defensively, however I have no issue with exceeding the speed
limit where I deem it appropriate, and if caught, I'll cop it unless I
can find a way to legally avoid doing so. When laws are inappropriate,
they will be treated with contempt, where laws are draconian and
unreasonable they will be avoided by all available means
