Old Pacific Highway Dramas - update

Guy Stanford (Pres - NSW MC Council) and Craig Brown have been in discussion
with Gosford Council (the party responsible for the debacle on the old
road.) Here is an email that was sent out by Sarah Newman (GRO committee
secretary). While not all aspects of the logic of Gosford Council make
sense, I can sort of see their point.

For those of you that didn't know, Craig rang Gosford Council earlier this
week having a whinge about the roads, as ride co-ordinator of a ride club
for which he brought over 50 bikes up the OPH, many of whom were learners
    and inexperienced riders.

He received a phone call back basically saying the Council had run out of
    money already - they'd been allocated $300K when they asked for/needed $8M,
and they've (a) had to carefully choose what roads to fix, and (b) they can
only afford to do a sub-standard job.

They WANT us to complain so they can get some more money out of the RTA and
State government. I advised Guy Stanford, whose response to me is set out
below. We could put this on the agenda for next week's meeting, and when we
have a plan of action/petition, spread it to ALL user groups we can find,
maybe do another Mount White survey/petition blitz, so we can do as Guy
    asked and bombard the council.

    From Guy Stanford:

    Sarah,

    I spoke to Craig.

He is going to prepare an email Road Hazard Report to submit to Gosford
Council on the spray seal issue. The idea being to distribute it to all GRO
riders who went through it last weekend.

It would be good to broadcast this across the Delegates list (say, put it up
on the website and pass the URL) as there are multiple groups wishing to
    protest this.

Lets flood Gosford with complaints. (they actually WANT them, to prove to
Scully that they need extra money)

Conversations are in train with Gosford. This is getting really interesting.
    Craig done good! Real good.

I was up there last week and had my rear wheel stepping out a foot on
    every turn.

Im more than willing to sign anything that will get the road back into a
    state that won't kill me.

Didn't you figure out what to do the first time it happened?

The surface will be fine after a couple of weeks of traffic

Hey Richard; are you back on two wheels again?
[if so] What are you on?
(I take it your GSXR never reappeared)

Perhaps wth some more funding they can straighten out all those bloody corners! It's a real pain in the butt leaning from side to
    side all the time.

The GSXR never reappeared. :( It was probably used for track work.

    I've got a black 2003 ZX6R. a very very nice machine.

BTW, anyone looking to buy a bike in Sydney should see what Canberra dealers
can do. Saved $500 buying from down there.
Got to run-in the ZX6R on the way back via Braidwood and Batesman bay!!

  7. I went home via the OPH wednesday night - the majority of the loose gravel
had been swept off to the shoulder by the traffic. There was very little
    loose stuff left at all.

I've got a mate who is an engineer for the RTA. He says they are supposed to
sweep the road when they've finished it (which I don't imagine costs that
much) so if they haven't you certainly have grounds to complain.

  9. While I don't agree with the band-aid style of roadworks I can't see a
problem either, and I was trying to lair it up. At least they had a
sweeper there, much better than when they did the northern section.

  12. Having said that, the section south of the cafe has had loose stones
pushed onto the road by cars cutting the corners. Still very visible tho'.
Perhaps they should've swept the sides better.

I went up the old road as far as the cafe, and back, just
after dark last night. I couldn't see any major drama with
the surface. (Mind, since it was dark, I couldn't see
much of anything 'cept the owl that got me on the shoulder
northbound just before the Mt White straight. Bastard
would have got me in the head had I not seen him coming
    and ducked!)
