Old folk, you've got to love 'em.

  1. The elderly couple next-door to me had a leaking overflow pipe in their yard
and he was explaining to me that he was going to call a plumber out to look
at it as he had no idea where it was coming from. I figured it was the
cistern overflow and as they aren't exactly loaded I offered to have a look.
Long story short - I replaced the valve and went on my way, leak fixed.

The next day he bought a bottle of wine round as a thank you which I thought
was a nice if unnecessary gesture. It was a bottle of Tesco's chardonnay.
Now I'm not a lover of white wine generally but as it's been hot we chilled
it and cracked it open. First sip had me gagging in the front room and my
wife screwing her face up so much I thought it would turn inside out.
Checked the bottle - best before March 2001!

  2. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Grimley_Feindish belched forth and ejected the
    following:
    Exactly!

Today when I was delivering, my barrow tipped and a box of bread fell
off and touched this old bag's leg.

"Sorry about that", I said. She then started banging on about being 92
and how dare you not be begging for forgiveness type shit.

I pointed out that age had **** all to do with it and I'd apologised
once and wasn't about to have her take the piss out of me for it.

I fucking hate that type of shit and really didn't GAF when the Paki
owner told me to "**** off, motherfucker"

Anyway, the old gimmer's well aware of how old it is and will now be
asking if you enjoyed the wine. Just remember to tell him it tasted like
    vinegar ;o)

Didn't they, while you were working, offer you a glass of sweet South African
sherry from a bottle that was first opened in 1964?

    Eh?

Wine doesn't have a best before date on it.

  5. Take it back to Tescos and say that racking it didn't improve the flavour
    and demand a replacement

Some of the fresher whites (and occasionally reds) do.

Lots of wine can and do go off. White wine is more prone to it, I
    believe.

I didn't know that they had sell-by dates on them though.

  8. I don't shop at Tescos so can't really comment on what they do and don't
have on their wine, only on this one from five years ago.
