    Hi Guys,

In Sumatra there are still hundreds of old 1940s & 1950s BSAs with sidecars
    being used as taxis.

Check out my photos website at www.peteloud.co.uk/photos/photos2.html There
is an old BSA thumbnail halfway down the page.

    Cheers,

Interesting to note that gay anodized bolts pre-date the UJM.

I doubt they're actually anodised, and I suspect that they may not have been
a contemporary accessory. More a case of life imitating art, IWHT

  7. Blimey. Mind, there were sidecar taxis in Brighton in about 19.

BSA pic is good. Rest of the portfolio is excellent, especially the
UK b/w boats. Similar age & photographic experience -- missed
out on the hippy bit. Have also spent many happy days on the
scanner rescuing the past ..... Thanks for the pointer. Colin

  11. My uncle has a very similar bike to this one - a 1924 V twin - that he still
rides at vintage rallies. I'd say the only difference would be that his does
not have a cab on the sidechair.

    Hi Guys,

I am delighted that many of you have appreciated my photographs. Thanks,
your positive comments, outside of the newsgroup, keep me going. However I
feel I have raised an interesting topic. Where else in the world are there
loads of ancient bikes still in use, or better still lying about unused.
Years ago when in Delhi I would use a weird Indian V-twin three-wheeler taxi
to get between New Delhi & Old Delhi, alas my photos are not worth showing.

Anyone come across similar populations of old bikes?

    Cheers,

    Pete

That would be an Indian Dispatch Tow:

    Hi Platypus,

Nah, These old Indians weren't like that. I'll try and sort out a couple of
pics for you, although they are not good.

I remember that in around 1989, when I worked in West Java, Indonesia, I
regularly used to be offered 1950's Harleys for a few hundred ££. (I can't
give a price because of changes in exchange rates, but believe me they were
cheap). If I'd had the time I could have been exporting them, or stock
piling them, and making a fortune.

I wish I'd been into photography in the 19060's when I was into bikes.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Pete, please take a look at the FAQ for this group, with particular
attention to the bits on not top-posting, and snipping sigs.

The FAQ can be found at: http://www.unixconsult.co.uk/bike/ukrmcfaq.html

    Thanks.

    Hi,

What the 'ef', is "top-posting", and "snipping sigs" ?

Being an old guy I was only taught English, French & Latin and struggle to
speak a few oriental languages. I can manage to tell the difference between
    B31 & B34, who couldn't. I can mange the difference between a '59 a '60
Dominator, even different models of Bantams and Bonnevilles but
"top-posting", and "snipping sigs" has me beaten.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    <sigh>

OK. Reply below the text you're replying to, so that people can see what
you're on about. And remove the bit below the "-- ", that's a sig and
    not relevant to the reply.

If you read the relevant bits of the FAQ this (and the reasons for it)
    are explained.

People tend to get shouty if you don't, and eventually people will stop
reading your stuff. And that would be a shame.

    Cheers

Over the past 10 years I have sent hundreds if not thousands, of postings to
newsgroups, and in most of them people put their message at the top, so it
has more impact. I usually leave whatever is relevant of the posting to
which I'm replying below for reference. Sometimes the sig. is significant
and needs to be included. If the posting that I'm replying to is a long
posting making several points I may copy the relevant point to the top so
that people can see which aspect I am referring too.

Until your emails no one has ever 'got shouty' and I never lack readers or
constructive follow-up discussion. In the past 2 days the photo webpages
which I originally referred to has had well over 3,000 page hits, so I must
    have had lots of readers.

It seems to me that you and steve a. lack experience in using newsgroups and
are trying to be petty control freaks.

    Cheers,
