Always preferred the BSA; don't know why.

Wha? You've got an incredibly desirable Kawasaki triple, which you
were recently talking about getting rid of, and now you want one of
    these pieces of shit?

It's just so you've got an excuse to buy some imperial spanners, isn't
    it?

sweller was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Only of you've got an external filter as you don't want that crap to
    wander around your engine otherwise.

    Its not me but VW...

They seem to have done quite well with their engines and lube
    specifications....

Well I reckon somewhere IRO 350 quid tbh. Much less than that and it's
worth stripping the engine out and putting it to one side in case the
one in my daily commute bike dies.

drop me an email if you're interested; email address is charred at the
above domain- drop the deadmail bit.

*talking* I've not actually done anything about it.

It's the fact that an A65 could be the same age as me that I find
attractive; plus it's *probably* more reliable than a triple...
    *cough* well it might be...

  11. These engines have a bush for a timing side main bearing although a needle
roller conversion is available. If the bush goes, you lose the oil supply to
the mains, as that goes through the bush.
The one my brother had (Thunderbolt) snapped the crank, and I believe this
was a weak spot, caused by a design induced stress raiser (sharp corner).
The Thunderbolt was the softer single carb version and the Spitfire was the
    lumpy cam variety.
All the usual caveats for old Brit bikes apply.
    Have fun

I thought they were here somewhere!
    a 1974 Haynes covering BSA A50 & A65 (never knew why I had that)
    a 1973 Haynes BSA A7 & A10 (see sig)
and a 1969 BSA (!) parts list for B25 Starfire

I have moved on, are these any use to anyone?

  17. The usual:
Know your make and model so you don't unknowingly buy a bitza.
If you want it to be reliable, be prepared to fix fifty years of
    *improvisation*.
Be prepared to get the spanners out on a fairly frequent basis for
    maintenance.
Nothing against Brit bikes, I've got 3.
'55 NH Red Hunter, early build of '56 model with alloy head.
    '68 Bantam 14/4
    Hinckley Trophy 900.
    Cheers
