Old alarm/immobiliser

  1. I'm new to this group, so Hi guys.

I bought a 10 year old R1100RS a year or so ago, and it has a Datatool
series 2 alarm immobiliser fitted, but no paperwork.
I found out how to switch it on and off, and it seemed to function OK.
Recently it stopped flashing the indicators, so I assumed I'd got a problem,
and tried to investigate. I replaced a 9v battery inside that was down to
    3v. but
It goes off as soon as I turn the isolator key back on, and I've had to
    leave it turned off now.
I've mailed Datatool from their website several times, but to no avail. I've
been informed by a mate that they have been taken over.
Do any of you have the same system, or know of someone who does? I'd like
to get hold of a copy of the user instructions, and will pay for copying and
    postage.
    Cheers,
    Bill

I know nothing about alarms except how to rip the fucking awful things
out and make the wiring good again, I strongly suggest you do the same.
Datatool are shite, known fact. If there's one subject that gets more
bandwidth than any other it's the one about how someone's Datatool has
    failed...yet again.

If you absolutely need to have a Thatcham alarm because your insco
demands it then you have two choices:

    1) Fit a Meta 357 because they are far mor reliable

    or

    2) Move to a less pikey area
Are you only known as Helen at the weekends?

Check the Datatool web site. There should be a PDF copy available
there. If not, contact them directly.

Yes Datatool tech support is rubbish!!

If you want to get it going, refer to the datatool website
www.datatool.co.uk and navigate to the support section. Select Alarm
immobilisers and download the 2 documents for the COMPACT 2. This is
basically the same unit as the Series 2 but in a different box (They
    won't tell you that though!).
The wire colours and function in the installation instructiom are
    identical to the series 2.
If I were you I would download the coding instructions pdf for
activating a new remote (bottom half of the page) but use your existing
    remote.
Its a bit of hassle fiddling around with wires but this should
    hopefully resync your Keyfob
and receiver. and get it up and running again.
If this doesn't work then check that your old PP3 battery did not leak
when it dropped to 3V (Like mine did!) and dissolve half the circuit
    board.

    Best of luck
    Douglas

Two words in that statement are superfluous.

I see there are a few non-Datatool fans here!! I have nothing against
the company but then I paid £7.00 on ebay for my alarm system which
does my turn fine so I can't really complain (so far.)

Datatools coment on the Series 2 "General production finished in '97
and we no longer carry the parts or information to service this unit."
For a company that has only ever made about 10 products I think they
could come up with something better than that

One more thing Bill,I am told the Compact 2 does not have an
immobiliser in it( Its an alarm only) but otherwise the wiring is
    identical.
Your series 2 will have an extra 6 wires (2 yellow, 2 White and 2 Pink)
which are not mentioned on the Compact 2 document. Yellow (normally
open) and white (normally closed) are for connection to immobilised
circuits the 2 pink wires are for the indicators (They flash when it
    arms! or goes off)
Hope it all helps, You've probably ripped it out by now and replaced
with 2 bloody great switches (which will probably do the same job if
    you hide them well enough!)

nice bloke. James Toseland is god-father to his little girl.
