who should I get a race licence from - New Era? Bemsee? Someone else?

what could I race in on a 7R?

Of course, I'll probably do no more about this than the last time I
    got vaguely interested in it.

I only did my bike test originally because there was a plan to hire Harleys
and ride down the West coast of California. The others all bailed but while
I was doing the DAS I remembered how much fun bikes were. I think the others
are jealous a bit that I stuck with it.

I just think it'll make me a better rider, and enable me to experience truly
what sports bikes are really about for however long it's fun for. I'll just
never do enough trackdays otherwise and before I know it, I'll be shopping
around for a touring scooter or summat.

Doesn't matter, really. You fill in the standard ACU application
form, and then join an affiliated club, who will authorise the form
for you. Bemsee are the biggest club, and tend to be centred in the
South East, so probably the best for you.

A better question is - which club shall I go racing with. And that is
dictated by what tracks you want to go to. Again, Bemsee does Brands,
Snett, Lydden, etc, so suits the London boys. On the downside,
reflecting perhaps their long history and their large (and well off)
catchment area, they tend to have lots of competitive riders with "all
the gear" [I did a Bemsee meeting last year, and couldn't believe the
awnings and race transporters in the paddock. Seriously, it was like
a Grand Prix paddock from 25 years ago.]
All clubs have a class for big fourstrokes, which will get you at
least a heat and a final. Plus you'll have a novice race of some
    sort.

If you and Porl and AN Other want to race on the same bike on the same
day, you're going to struggle, as the bike itself will only be
eligible for certain classes. Prolly can be done, but will need some
jiggery-pokery, not to mention swapping race numbers back and forth.

May I recommend, for a low cost, high fun introduction to racing, the
Bemsee "Yamaha Past Masters" class. Open to 350LCs and TZR250s, it
provides all the fun at a reasonable budget - you can pick up a bike,
usually with a raft of spares for between a grand and 1,500 quid. If
anyone is interested, then I'll put them in touch with people who
really know. I did a YPM race on a borrowed TZR last year and it was
    an absolute hoot.

well, I'll have an RGV250 from some time this month as well as the
    ZX7R. Probably doesn't help much, as it's a shitty 2-stroke and no-one
    will want to ride it.
    think about it - ta.

I need clearance from The Blane before I do anything other than
    trackdays with shared motorbikes.

Also, I got very wet on the way home today and am considering giving
up all forms of motorbiking for ever.

A mate is selling one of these, I'm going to HAG before she gets rid.
She hasn't got the new battery on yet.

My (not very) waterproof overtrousers are under the seat of the bike,
outside, in the rain. So **** it, Gap khakis vs the elements, prace
    your bets now.

  15. Heh. It was quite funny one trackday at Rockingham (before I owned it).
People were queueing up to ride the thing. It's immense fun. Was that a
    bite?

    When did you buy Rockingham?

    Can I have a free track-day, Mister?

I got home mostly dry, but it's a fine suggestion and I may just follow
    it up.
