There's nothing new under the sun, the same thing happened in 1967
when Barbara Castle put up the price of petrol by six denarii a gallon
at 6pm the same evening. The normal few column inches of Jaguars for
sale in the Exchange and Mart became a page full the week after, and
    stayed at that level.

On being questioned about the price rise in the House, she replied
that the economy was on course but needed a touch on the tiller, after
which she became known as the Tiller Girl.

Now it's the other way. For the French runners, this'd be the best way
to save a few (not much mind) quid.

I always fill up in Dover so I can get off the ferry and do as many
miles as possible before needing to fill up.

Of course, there's always one tit in the group who doesn't play ball, so
I end up topping up after 40 miles of autoroute anyway.

And someone else in the same situation decides not to bother topping up
when they still have 2/3 of a tank, so we stop again another 60 miles
    down the road.

And somebody always needs a fag and/or a coffee after filling up.

Lather, rinse and repeat all the way to the fucking hotel.

  4. Not to mention the person on a Bandit12 who needs to fill up at all of
    the above points.

Still, it's either that or ride solo, which is not really the point of
    it for me.

I quite like riding solo: partly because of the above; partly because I
ride slowly at times gawping at scenery; I tend to ride over passes many on
sports bikes consider unsuitable; I like the solitude. Conversely, I like
to have company when dining & drinking.

    I think they'd class the clutch as a consumable ... ?

S'pose so... but is it worth the hassle of unplumbing the speedo cable
    from time to time?

    ;-)
TPFT quotes are always higher for me than FC, for some strange reason.

IKWYM - the vast majority of my riding is solo.

When I started attending TOG Tours, it was specifically so that I would
be riding with other, which would make a nice change.

Consumable or not, the insurance would cover the cost of a repair
following a breakdown. For vehicles like ours (over 10 years old/over
100k miles) a full year's Mechanical Breakdown Insurance is 100 quid.
For that, if you call the AA for a breakdown and they (can't fix it
there and then and thus have to) have to deliver the vehicle for
repairs, the AA will cover parts *and* labour up to £500, for up to
five claims a year, minus a £25 excess for each claim.

Sounds quite tempting to me, apart from two caveats: that's the only
big bill I've had (touches wood) for some time - and the umbrella
theory: once you've got it, you don't need it.

Do you have to get proof of main dealer servicing?

Cable? I don't think so - not that kind of cable, anyway. Electrical,
these days ... and there's a (un)pluggable junction in that wire under
    the bonnet. Apparently.
You're not alone. This is quite common among the yoofy end of the
scale, so I hear from the moaning yoofs, some of whom were restricting
themselves to only getting TPFT quotes. When apprised of the
situation, they were as baffled as me when, upon revisiting the InsCo
in question with a request for a FC quote, it turned out to be not only
cheaper, but (as one might expect) considerably more comprehensive in
its compass. With a lower excess, to boot.

I guess so - what wiggled my eyebrows was that the offer arrived about
a week after I'd forked out for the clutch job. Cynical bastards.
