  2. Depends which sort of bike. ShiteOldBeemer or Guzzi, yes. Modern Ducati,
    no.

I had a conversation with a bike dealer in Brighton that went a bit
    like;

Me: CG125 right hand engine cover gasket please.
    He: Replacing the clutch?
Me: No, doing a big service.
He: Oh, we don't bother cleaning the filter ever.
Me: Ok, have you got the gasket then?
He: Well.... <mumbles on about how long it'll take to order, not in
    stock>
Me: I'll go elsewhere if it's too much trouble. <walks out>

I use Halfords semi synth "Motorcycle Oil" in the Zephyr.

    It's not too expensive

My workshop manual arrived from David Silver, today.

10/40 is recommended, but it also shows 20/50 as being ok, over the
temperature range we have in this country..... So, it remains an option.

BTW, the light hasn't played silly buggers since....

Not necessarily - worn bearings through shoddy maintenance would give the
low oil pressure, especially at lower revs but rings and valves are
    probably still ok.

Oil and filter is where I'd start too, if that doesn't work use some
straight 30 diesel oil (Comma do a 30HD).

When you say flash do you mean flicker or do you mean comes on?

How many miles has the bike done?

Anyway, this is the order I'd approach the job:

Oil and filter - use 10/40 bike oil, nothing too fancy: Semi Synth will
    be more than enough.

if this doesn't fix it, then:

Pressure sender - find out price of a new Honda one then find out oil
pressures from HBOL then go into a motor factors with the old one and ask
for "one like it" if its substantially cheaper than OE buy one.

    then:

Change oil to straight 30 diesel oil.

    then (probably "also"):

Disconnect oil lamp and sell bike with the excuse it doesn't help my bad
    back.

It has stopped of it's own accord and works normally. Most likely the
switch was sticky. The engine seems to be doing better, now that I've
    thrashed it a bit.
