Oil leak & Motorycle Inspection Question?

Discussion in 'Texas Bikers' started by Oyster_Slurper, Jun 8, 2005.

  1. Is there anything in the Texas regulations stating that a motorcycle
with an oil leak can’t pass inspection :?:

I have a 1983 Honda that needs inspecting, but is does leak a little
oil. Is there going to be a problem getting it inspected?

    Thanks,
    OS

Nope - I took my '82 XJ650 Maxim in for inspection this last winter (all 3
days of it), and they pretty much checked the horn, headlight, made sure
the brakes are good (not mushy or anything), checked the tread condition,
and handed me a sticker/receipt. If they checked much more than that, this
it was while he drove around the building to test the braking...

Pesky oil leaks could be from any of several spots... Oil filter o-ring,
drain bolt o-ring, valve cover gasket, header gasket, oil pan gasket,
breather tube overflow, shaft seals, etc...

I take offense to that comment... My Harley doesn't leak a drop of oil...
    Bite your tongue...

After thinking on it a bit, I bet you’re right. I have had this bike
inspected before, and they did just exactly like they did with yours.
Except I tested the brakes for them as they looked on.

Even with cars, I don’t think they look for oil leaks, just exhaust
    leaks and the like.

Anyway, I’ll find out this weekend.....

  5. I got my bike new in 92 and haven't had a problem with the inspection
sticker. It still looks good, why would I want it replaced? = ;^ )

I find it ironic that you say that in a thread of a Honda leaking oil.
Are there Honda parts on the side of the road as well?

What are you insinuating, here.. I'll testify that MY Harley doesn't sling
parts and it doesn't leak oil.. hmmm.. maybe a little chain lube, or
something.. Harley bashing is one thing, as a joke.. this thread is getting
    downright offensive..
