And isn't synthetic rubber for tyres an oil-based product?

Though obviously the oil doesn't normally come out on to the surface of the
tyre as in the (suspected) case of this road surface :)

I wonder if it's the same as the "low noise" surfacing they've been
slapping on motorways. The online consultation exercise for that included
pedestrians and horse riders, but not motorcyclists...

I read on another forum that one guy spun out and crashed on a country
road. When he regained consciousness he was told that his wife was dead
and that the police were prosecuting him for dangerous driving.

He has since won his case against the council for the slipperyness of the
new surface they'd laid down without putting up any warning signs.

If you see a slippery road sign just before some new tarmac - beware!

  7. The recent schoolbus crash in Ireland in which 5 kids died was, I'm
fairly sure, caused by just such a thing.

The link in that post (now dead) wentto a govt online survey which had a
drop down list for you to select what type of road user you are. The list
included car driver, truck driver, horse rider, pedestrian, wheelchair
user (I kid you not). Motorcyclist was not on the list.
