    You must have missed it.....

And yes, it's another valuation request.

    1991 KLR 650 German Import
    Looks to be good condition
    16k miles (ISTR)

    How much, mister?

I have a feeling that the ebay auction has now gone over what it's
    worth, though.

Aye, the colours are gash, but it looked, to me, like it was a
    reasonably priced big traillie.

Back to the drawing board, then.

Anyone got a cheap Transalp or Africa Twin?

I had one as a loaner from Frasers in Gloucester. Definitely the worst
big traillie that I've ridden and pretty close to being the most
uncomfortable [1] of all bikes I've ridden. Your ideas about
Transalps/ATs in a later post are much more sensible.

depends on your definition of "cheap". J.A.Lock in Edmonton had one in
this morning, pretty late reg, 2995.

    A lot less than that.

Set myself a limit of £1500 at a push, 'cos it's not going to get _that_
    much use.

Also consider a Dominator - the best of the 1990s single cylinder trail
bikes IMO. Post 1993 bikes had a larger fuel tank that increased range to
    120+.

Don't they have a reputation for fecking their top-ends, though?

If you're going to go for a thumper, it's gotta be an XT really.
Should be loads of em around for that sorta money.

thought it might be. The one in the shop was fairly new - Y plate, I
    think.
Biketrader would suggest you'd be hard pushed to get an AT for less
than 2.25K, and it'd be over 10 years old.

If I were looking for one as my main bike, I'd happily spend the money,
but this is just as an occasional toy when I want to explore the gravel
    forest tracks.
Yeah, an AT is well out of my range - and probably too tall and heavy
    anyway.

I've looked at proper traillies, and decided they're both uncomfortable
for pillions, and not much cop if a majority of your ride is on the
    road.

F650 looks like a decent option, but I'd preferably want to spend less
cash initially, upgrading once I've found out if I actually like riding
    off-road.

My old Dominator is still thumping along at over 56k. One of the first ones
on an E plate it is. Lovely bike, well recommended.

doubt you'll find one available in a pikeyprice.

F.C.Trott in Harrow have a few, starting at 1650. They've got a few
    cheap-ish Super Tens too.

    And that ZX9R looks cheap.

  19. Not the most reliable of engines, I'm afraid.

And completely innapropriate for a big traile, IIRC, being a buzzy
revvy thing with no grunt below 5k rpm.
