Not just that, but I reckon you'd be on very dodgy ground with the 'tax
exempt' status if a copper / VOSA or MOT tester wanted to get a bit
    funny with you.

  4. I think it is rather sweet. It would only be horrid if the engine were
    painted yellow.

Which probably wouldn't be long, seeing as it looks like all they've done to
'chop' it is add longer stanchions, without altering the head angle to suit,
so it'd handle like .. er .. a very crap old beemer with long forks, I
    guess. ;)

  6. The only 1962 bit of that is the frame, but it certainly used to be the
case that the frame was all that counted as far as age went.

This is from the DVLA website:

Unmodified frame (original or new) and two other major components from
the original vehicle; forks, wheels and engine or gear box.
If a second-hand frame is used the vehicle must pass a motorcycle single
vehicle approval (MSVA) test after which a 'Q' prefix registration
    number will be allocated.

Don't know how that would affect the bike in question, though.

I shudder to think what the "classic helmet" looks like

  9. I'd bet it's been a bitsa long before that reg came in though, so would
    be unaffected.
