Paul Varnsverry says... When I send texts to my yo-yo knickered air-stewardess friend, it costs me a fortune if she's abroad at the time. I tend to wait til I know the sender is in the same country as me before I reply. Sounds idyllic, and no doubt full of pretty Chinese girls looking for a fun time with a westerner. Any jobs going there for a good salesman?
tallbloke says... If you can be sure it fits, then buy it. They normally retail at a tenner more than that.
I'll try one on at the local store first. It's in MK too Lozz, hope it didn't come from your car! The guy has an ebay shop and loads of pos feedback though, so prolly not.
tallbloke says... Good plan. I know this guy. He's not one of my customers as he's off my patch, but he's a decent bloke and I very much doubt he'd handle stolen goods.
Heh, I love the internet. Are they a really good lid then? I have a budget, and this is well within it. Could go up to £125. I want something light and aerodynamic, as computing has taken it's toll on my neck and shoulders.
tallbloke says... Ask Paul Varnsverry, he's just back from our factory. The N750-VX is a nice enough lid, I may start using one myself. Paul saw neck load test results and was impressed with the leser degree of strain from our lids.
@news.individual.net: Hmm, I read that too. how does the weight compare with light lids with acu gold ratings such as Suomi's?
tallbloke says... I dunno, my only N750-VX sample was stolen and the weight was written on the back. I don't have weight details to hand. Sorry.
I'm pretty impressed with the one I've bought for SWMBO - for the budget I think it's an excellent lid with a rather plush interior. In fact, weren't I a bit broke at the moment I'd consider getting one as a second lid to replace my aging (and crap) flip-up.
I can be arsed to take SWMBO's out of the helmet bag at four in the morning, but ISTR that it's labelled at about 1350 for the XS lid.
tallbloke says... Nope. The MSA[1] don't recognise the ECER 22-05 standard. They still recognise the old BS6658 but you need to check with them to make sure you buy an approved helmet. I called them a while ago and they said they had no plans to introduce the ECER standard either. [1] Motor Sports Association.
Bollocks. Does the bluebook list all the approved lids then? Sorry for all the dumb questions, but can you recommend an approved lid for me. I might end up with two, as I like the look of the Nitro for riding. How much can you do me an aftermarket smoked visor for??
tallbloke says... I'm not sure about the MSA blue book, but I know that ACU scrutes have a listing of all approved lids in their version. I can't supply tinted visors due to legal constraints, you have to go to www.thevisorshop.com [1] for those. As far as approved lids go, it is getting very difficult to find anything remotely affordable that you can use for car racing/rallying now. All the major bike lid manufacturers have gone over to ECER testing as it isn't legal to sell a bike helmet that is only tested to BS6658A now. ECER22-05 has to be the standard at which it is sold for use on the road by a motorcyclist. There are specialist helmets that are approved by the MSA, but you're looking at spending a lot of dosh. Other than that, you want to be searching out older helmets from a bike dealer's stock and looking for the old blue BS6658A stickers on the side. That's about the only way you'll find a cheap MSA approved lid nowadays. If you find one, the dealer has had it in stock for a very long time, so haggle a deal out of him. @news.individual.net: Seems crazy, since I'm sure the new standard exceeds the old one anyway. Thanks for the info. Are all the blue stickers the same BS6658A? I can see a fair few new old stock lids on Fleabay but the photos aren't good enough to make out the numbers on the kitemark. Maybe I'll just stick with my old Kevlar Nava for car racing that has a BS 6658A sticker and an RAC/ACU gold sticker too. Could do with a new visor though. Bet thevisorshop.com ain't got any visors for a 10 year old Nava though.
