I went into a shop by Stepney Green tube station today and paid for an
item using my debit card, guess what? I had to type in my PIN number.

A security code that authenticates who you are so that you can make a
payment using a debit or credit card.

You should have the option of signing too, as many people don't remember
their PINs. We have the CHIP & PIN machine at work, but when I've asked
customers which would be their preference, the majority have said they'd
rather sign their signature - they don't remember PINs, especially to credit
cards. We'll hafta activate it, and I do agree that it reduces fraud, which
is great. But I sure as hell don't know my PIN codes.

Which would completely negate any increased security benefits gained by
    C&P.

Apparently so - but you'll be the wooshee.
Clearly I was being far too subtle.

From other posts I see you are right.

    I respectfully withdraw my 'whoosh'.

Sadly, that has too many digits.

7175 as a rough (and poor) approximation?

Swiss ones can have up to 6 digits. But they don't have to.
