Cat D writeoff. From the amounts offered for them keeping the bike and
me keeping the salvage it's bye-bye 10R time.

    <brightside>
I dread to think what the insurance would've been.
    </b>

On a related note, my policy expired around the 10th of March. How long
do I keep the NCB for (assuming I get a good result from the wrangling)?

Oh, and suggestions for what's next are welcome, so long as they're not
shit. For example, Monz's suggestion today of a Honda Melody is shit.

Get a 125 trailie. Ride it off road for a year. By that time your insurance
will have recovered. You will be a lot stronger. You will have learned to
    ride.
    Job Done.

    Catch you later BTW.

I saw a pre-reg C2 10R advertised the other day for just under £6k. It
was in that horrible orange colour that the merkins were lumbered with
but at least you'd have a proper one rather than one of the sanitised
    versions.

It depends what you want it for.

City commutes : CG125 or similar lightweight.
    Cheap reliable allrounder : GS500
Hooning around riding like a cnut : anything 600+ with a fairing.
Midlife inadequacy display : Anything labelled "Sport"
    Family transport : Ural rig.
Posing : Harley Davidson or Buell.
Organ donation : Hyabusa, Triumph 2300, Fireblade, etc.
Proving that you qualify for a bus pass : Notrun or any pre-72 SOB.

Until all the insurance stuff is sorted I don't think big sportsbikes
will be on the cards due to stupid premiums.

Even then, I'm not that sure about another big sportsbike for the road
as this whole thing has knocked me a bit. We'll see, as I've not really
    thought about it all yet.

You can quite easily fit the tail from a K1/2/3, the front is very
    similar.

Yes, but not really loudly enough. I've taken advice, and will redo the
    details before relisting.

Sir want's Ian's old rat bike. A couple of binbags, air in the tyres,
unsieze the brakes and a bit of matt black spray to tidy it up etc
    etc, job's a good'n.
    As you were then.

One claim? Shouldn't make too much of a difference, IME.
Ahh, well that I can sympathise with. I concluded that there was no
point in going for a slow bike as I'd just screw it to, and beyond,
it's limits all the time, which would be worse than just riding a
    litre bke at 'normal' pace.

Was it a claim on the driver's insurance or yours in the end?
No idea but I think it's a while.

Now I've spoken to Chris and know the figures I can only suggest a
    motard.

They're brilliant around corners, cheap to buy (compared to a litre
bike), storming bikes for the one off bit of stunting, cheap to run
and cheap to insure. If cost to buy and insurance become an issue you
get miles more laughs for your money than a 'post DAS' type of bike
    like an SV.

But if I wanted the tail of a K1/etc then I'd get one with a K1 front
attached. I don't really see the point of buying one thing then making
    it look like another.

  19. CBR600? That's what I'd be looking at if I needed a cheap bike, couldn't
afford 10R insurance and wanted a fairing.

  20. Indeed. It needs a new front tyre and a couple of small holes in the
collector welding/blocking and it'll pass its MOT.

    Much cheapness.
