The hotel bar I'm in[1] has a habit of playing Van Halen / Bon Jovi
type music for some bizarre reason. There's a CD playing right now,
with assorted hip young Indians foot-tapping and head-nodding along.

Meanwhile there's me and another guy giggling into our beers and
desperately trying not to catch each other's eye.

    The album?

    Break Like The Wind...

[1]wi-fi, I know, I know, terminally sad ****. I'm tired and in need
    of food & beer, OK?

  2. It sort of reminds me of that TV advert for the Peugeot 206.

Regrettably, that advert *must* have been made by someone who knew
    India pretty well.

Anyway, we're onto Pink FLoyd now.

Saw a belter this morning. Usual snot-nosed kid tapping on the window
of the car at the lights. Only this one was using the hand with no
    fingers...

It actually persuaded my colleague to hand a few rupees over.

Yersss... The other hand had fingers. And it was a "her". Poor little
sod. I suspect the fingers were removed by her parents to help with
the begging, but that's probably just me being a totally cynical
    bastard.

  13. If they were wielding the knife in order to improve her marketability,
they might have carved her a decent fanny as well.

Silly question - but can you get a decent curry in India?

Heh. They're "different". It's *very* hard to judge how hot any
particular dish is going to be until it's waaaaay too late.

"Oh, this is OK. Ish. Ummm. FUCKING HELL!"

The veggie food, or seafood tends to be the best (if not the safest)
bet. The meat is generally of poor quality and not well-cooked.

    All IMLE[1], of course.

    [1] 5 or 6 trips.

  18. FWIW an Indian colleague of mine advised against ever eating meat in
India[1] On the grounds that the locals rarely do so it's kept for
visitors and might have been around sometime. I could also relate some
horrendous tales of the cleanliness standards in the meat markets.

[1] vegetarian so maybe an axe to grind where eating meat is concerned

I'd go with that, I shat like a donkey every time I ate meat over there.

I've eaten chicken most days when I've been India, not much else in
the way of meat. And each piece gets a once over to make sure it's
cooked through. I'm currently batting about .500 on "drizzling shits"
    episodes.

One of the big risk items is rice. It tends to sit around for hours at
    perfect bug-breeding temperatures.
