The history of this goes back a long way but "a liberal vote is a wasted
vote" has been a mantra of the labour party faithful when under pressure
for generations.[1] Like most things spouted by Mainstream it is bollox
with a trace of truth in distant unwritten history dragged out to
frighten the uninformed and unknowing come polling day. Ignore it, it
    is bollox.

[1] Point for the Labour party faithful tp note is that some of the two
thirds of us who won't be voting for them last, this or next time get
deeply offended by this and will even help parties we don't like just to
piss in labours pie. I think that it is a very negative policy that
will backfire badly on them in the same way as Blurs "If You don't trust
Me then vote for the others." A direct result of that speech has been
to get two people I know who have never voted to come out and vote,
against Tone obviously. Well done Tone.

Hitler was no threat to Britain in the 30's. He knew he had a lot of
support in the house of lords and other places and sought us out as an
ally. It was only politically active Jewry within the Labour Movement
that really held us back from joining him by the skin of our teeth.

And it was us who declared war on him, don't forget that. He, like
Saddam, did not start on us first.

No need. I think the whole of the world is now pretty much aware just
how much of a lie that whole WMD was. With a bit of luck the merkin
freedom of information laws will let us see the rest of the truth soon.

In truth there wasn't actually that much of a tide. You cannot have
public opinion when not only are the public almost completely uninformed
but the mechanisms to find out precisely how ignorant they were of
events didn't exist as they do today. It was a different world, a long,
long away from here. Your very modern glasses are out of focus.

This may have been the case

  4. Refuse the order as illegal and then hope they have a very very good
lawyer to keep them out of Colchester for the rest of their service
    term.

It's not just paras, I know of others who were making frantic phone
calls when things were kicking off for Op Telic trying to get any
posting they could because their own units weren't deploying.

The British Army doesn't do much War Fighting but it's the job it's
    trained to do.

IME people who have left since Op Telic haven't left because they were
sent to the gulf but because of how they were treated there and how the
situation has been handled ever since.

  12. Not quite. The Wop driver was going too fast and his passenger paid the
    price.

Interesting that some 15-30 vehicles had already been turned back from
the checkpoint. Vehicles that hadn't been fired on.

What *every* Labour campaigner? I can't recall ever saying it. So it
looks as if your statement is, ermm, not right.

Joshing aside, there are a number of seats that a protest vote could
adversely affect and allow a Tory in.

It can be argued this, naturally, doesn't make for a more left leaning
social democratic parliament: "I'm voting for a more socialist
    parliament by having more Tories".

IMO Hove is a gonner but Hornchurch, Essex - John Cryer MP - with a
    smaller majority (1,200 v Hove's 3,200) may survive. I spent a long
Wednesday knocking on doors there and was surprised at the fairly solid
Labour vote on both the right to buy ex-council estates and run down
areas. The BNP were nowhere to be seen (Romford is another story though).

Hopefully my Ladbrookes spree will bring me riches beyond my wildest
    dreams [1]...

Back to the point, the Labour seats where the Tories stand a good chance
of slipping in if there's 'left' protest vote:

    Dumfries
    Braintree
    Monmouth
    Lancaster and Wye
    Kettering
    Northampton South
    Welwyn Hatfield
    Shipley
    Clwyd West
    Bexleyheath and Crayford (BNP 'target')
    Milton Keynes NE
    Hornchurch
    Selby
    Hammersmith and Fulham
    Thanet South
    Forest of Dean
    Wellingborough
    Ilford North
    Rugby and Kenilworth
    Gillingham
    Harwich
    Enfield North
    Calder Valley
    Redditch
    Peterborough
    Shrewsbury and Atcham
    Dartford
    Scarborough and Whitby
    Hove
    Preseli Pembrokeshire
    Gloucester
    Putney
    Hemel Hempstead
    Ribble South
    Finchley and Golders Green
    Wolverhampton South West
    The Wrekin
    Sittingbourne and Shepey
    High Peak
    Stourbridge
    Brigg and Goole
    Falmouth and Camborne
    Medway
    Colne Valley
    Wirral west
    St Albans
    Vale of Glamorgan
    Burton
    Hastings and Rye
    Pendle

You know he was talking about the "blacked out" text
not really being blacked out, and not the content of
the report. Right? Or am I stating the bloody obvious
to the clued and making a right arse of myself again?
Well, that's what the US says. The Italians say different.
And as usual we'll never really know, will we? Comes down
to who do you trust least I guess.

Does this give more credence to the US version (driving too fast)
or the (now unofficial) Italian one (shot deliberately)?
