You forgot to mention asylum seekers, cancer and Diana.

I happen to know a nice black asylum seeking family. They had been living on
an expired visa for a couple of years, in Leeds. As soon as they were
rumbled and sent to the Bedfordshire detention centre they cooked up a cock
and bull story about why they couldn't return home. Everything has been
handed to them and they now have a nice local authority home readied in
Liverpool and a generous weekly allowance.

Much as I like them it "Makes me Seethe" ;o)

Cheers. I'm not one for ideas that could be lifted straight out of the Daily
Mail, but that's how I see it. When I was made redundant, trying to claim
benefits was a long winded process with ridiculous pitfalls. I was made
redundant just before the end of the tax year, and as a result, made my
claim before the end of the tax year. Which meant my NI contributions
counted for nothing, as they look at the first previous complete tax year's
NI contributions, which was when I was a student doing placement work for
about 3 months of the year.

There's no way I'd chose the life of the average person living on benefits,
but it's clear that many do. I know people who do.

Less to do with driving, more to do with loss, IWHT. A conviction for
(for example) assault may not have a measurable effect on the risk. One

Quite a lot if the conviction's for being a bank robbery get-away
driver. But insurance isn't just about driving is it. Someone who's got
a conviction for robbery or car theft is more likely to torch/steal
their own car & make a false claim.

Its a long long story, and involves a JCB, aluminium barrels and some
    welsh cunts.

And? Some of mine have too, but there won't be anyone "outing" them at some
point in the future, coz it's common knowledge.

As one of ukrm's recent dole bludgers, I can tell you that it's usually
never more than 2 weeks from first submitting a claim to getting the
first payment. If your circumstances are more urgent than mine were
    then crisis loans are available.

Not as bad as I thought then. I still hope I don't have to go on the
    dole in the future, mind.

It also depends on how busy that particular office is. Six to eight
weeks is not unheard of, to say the least, especially where housing
    benefit is concerned.

what annoyed me the most is the total inflexibility. They have a one size
fits all approach and default to the position that everyone is a blood
sucking leach on the state. If you sign on and say, "I will be starting a
job/course in x weeks" they still insist that you attend return to work
interviews or how to complete CV workshops, because the computer says so.
The concept of financially supporting someone for a few weeks inbetween
    contracts is alien to them.

Housing Benefit is paid by the local council, so you can't blame the
    DWP for that.

Mid Beds Council are self serving cunts, that much I did learn, and
will do everything in their power to slow your application up, as I
    found out.
