The winning bidder was the bloke who asked whether the bleed nipple
was seized. And you'll see from the answers that I said I didn't know,
and offered advice on what to do. And now he's sheared it off and is
unhappy. I've offered him, ex gratia, a tenner back for getting it
drilled out, but I suspect he's going to get difficult.

    For God's sake. Mutetrmutter

Sorry, but you're your own worst enemy on this one. Stating 'the bleed
nipple is intact' immediately after mentioning two things that aren't
seized does make a certain implication. The answer to his question
should've been either 'I don't know, so assume it is seized' or 'I'll
find out & get back to you'.

Fair play for the partial refund though. If he still negs you after
    that, he's a twat.

  3. "From experience, I find the nipples undo fine if you apply a lot of
heat from a blowlamp before putting a spanner on them"

Ah well, there's the problem. I've learned the hard way to avoid giving
advice to the clueless and hamfisted, often in the mistaken belief they
have the same mechanical sensitivity as me. If he is so clueless as to
not know what to do with a sheared one, he shouldn't have been near it
in the first place. He probably aimed a fag lighter at it for ten
seconds and heaved on the spanner.

Anybody can shear a nipple - and everybody's got to start somewhere, but
he shouldn't be whinging about it as if it's your fault. If I buy a used
caliper a sheared nipple is often part of the deal, so no biggie to me,
    or many others, I suspect.

That's more or less how I read it, as well.

Ah well, he's taken the £10 refund. Next time I'll sort the bloody
bleed nipple out myself before putting the thing up for sale.

I take it you gave him a receipt which included phrases such as "sold
as seen" and "no warranty given or implied"?

If so, remind him of that and that things can seize at random. Then
tell him to stop being a soppy twat and join the real world.

  8. indeed. You stated quite clearly that you didn't know if it was free or
    not.
