Oh feck - entitlement expires

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jun 8, 2005.

  1. Just had a letter from the DVLA. Truck entitlement expires on 24 July
    unless I renew my medical.

WC, the eyesight test you did in TW: is it the old-fashioned
read-the-chart thing still, or have they got the new random image
    generator kit?

I can wing the one but not the other.....

You're bloody lucky I saw this post[1]. There I was, trying to get some
shuteye and it just seems sick to go to bed when the sun's still shining
even though I have to be up at the crack of dawn (fnarrr).

OK. When I did the eyetest in TW, it was the standard "stand a certain
distance from the chart with an eyepatch" job.

[1] Realises the irony in this statement.

I'm pissed off, I can no longer do the bottom line with my left eye,
    wearing glasses.

But I think it's mostly a symptom of a lazy eye.

Did I mention that my eyes have mysteriously improved since I last had
a test? Seems that neither of them is short-sighted any more, so I've
binned the specs and replaced the Rx lenses in my Oakleys with the
    pristine originals. Which is nice.

Still got a bit of astygmatism, though, which made the bottom line a
bit fuzzy with one eye, but was fine with them both together.

That happens to me every 5 or so years.. with luck I'll not need glasses
    as I hit 50.
    Astigmatism is a PITA.

  6. Brilliant. I've still got his chart memorised, so it should be a piece
    of piss.

Old age and presbyopia. You'll be reading the newspaper at arm's length.

Don't they have about 4 or 5 charts, all different?

  10. More than that. I had the first three or four lines of all of them
memorised last time (I thought), and then this doctor had one I'd never
    seen before.

Had to have a shufti when I thought he wasn't looking and do some quick
    memorising.

    AOEHLANTCO

I doubt he's changed it since.

mines only .75 in one eye, .25 in the other, so not really noticeable
in most situations. Not changed for about ten years either.

Well yes, close vision becomes more of an issue as one ages, but isn't
that usually a result of muscle function, rather than a change in
eyeball shape such as would be required for the correction that's
    occurred?

Will you be memorising all the roads and traffic before you set off in you
    truck?
