I'm totally impressed, and I didn't know about the PDA thing until a
few minutes ago. And I'm pleased because I'm going to be getting
    PDA-ed up soon.
I might as well start from scratch.

are you saying you'd buy a noddy DB application I'd write?

    a) it'd be feature-free compared to the above-mentioned commercial
    software &
    b) it'd be a thin-client/server app i.e. you'd need to be running SQL
Server and IIS on an always-up server somewhere...

I suspect I'd get my money's worth out of the support agreement.

I am fairly sure I know if I have ever owned a CD, but it gets a bit
harder if they all get stolen [1], you have replaced *some* of them
(bye, bye Max Bygraves) then have the new collection split when you
    get divorced.

[1] I still get fucking annoyed if I hear something on radio from a CD
that I used to own and have not been able to replace.

good point. Well, ukrm.net v3 is /nearly/ finished, so when that's
done I'll get on the case. I can always offer you a repository on my
server if you like. I'm already thinking of neat-o features I can
build in (mostly Amazon-related so far).

Add a bar-code reader interface with look-up database to save all that
tappity-tap at the keyboard and you could be onto a winner.

Show the insurance company the list and it eases the valuation of the
claim. I split the collection into those that would have to be
replaced at the current premium price and those that could be got from
the bargain bucket at a lower average price.

That I would pay really good money for.

I thought of it a while ago, did some half-hearted googling, but
    didn't come up with anything.

Er, that's the point I was making. Not having a list and just saying
"Erm a few hundred books" wouldn't go down very well.

  14. Pathetic. My mp3 drive (the two mirrored ones on 2 seperate servers)
    is currently running at 55G.

And it's all good stuff too. The finest Progressive music
in existance (with the odd levening of ordinary rock and Folk).

Want. Don't need as I've no doubt I'd never get round to scanning
stuff in. After we were burgled a few years back (and weeks later we
were still remembeing CDs and videos that were missing) I started a
list of CDs and videos and sorted the books into sections but I've
never gone back and finished it. I can see the usefulness but other
things have always taken priority. I can't see my bothering with a
spreadsheet but if anyone wants to volunteer to catalogue all my stuff
    and draw me one up...

You could fit all of that on 3 Creative Zen Xtra's.

Fancy carrying it all around with you on three devices the same size
and weight as a small Walkman?
