Just got back from a great week's holiday in the Dales. Travelled up in the car with the family. So focused on the road and passing the slower drivers was I, that I didn't notice the bright yellow Volvo with POLICE stamped on the side on a ramp on the A1(M) in N Yorks. My wife did, and pointed this out to me. A quick dab on the brakes (too late of course) and I noticed the Volvo move of the ramp onto the hard shoulder. "Well, if he stop's me it's fair enough" I inform my family. And fair enough it was - he pulled up behind me, lights flashing and I gently pulled onto the hard shoulder. Oh dear. Clean license for 23 years, besmirched now with the addition of 3 points and a £60 fine for 93mph. They policeman told me that if I'd been doing 96, it would have been a summons. He was very business-like but also surprisingly un-patronising - a very nice chap actually who let me have a go with the hand-held radar gun they use. I feel I got value for money out of my £60/3 points - the thrill of the 'will he wont he', flasjing blue lights, get to sit in a real police car etc as compared to an NIP dropping throught the letter box as a result of not having spotted a gatso!
