Oh dear, this isn't going well...

  1. Ordinary SSs came with a a cover for the pillion seat that made it look
like a single seat unit anyway.

You're right - the single seat version does look nice.

  2. yeah, but at least I don't post saying "please give me money".

There's a reason why I'm skint, well, several. Mainly it's idleness and
lack of tuits to do enough work, that and a fondness for motors and other
    money-sinks.

and I already have a bike, which is, amazingly, legal and on the road, so
another would be something of an extravagance.

  4. yeah.

Did anyone proffer opinions on exactly which SOHonda that is?

I've been off usenet for a bit, playing silly games.

Yes, but I'm privy to its origins...
    What's fresh?

Basically, the bike is a RS250, with bits of different provenance
stirred in and tacked-on. Everything seems sound enough.

The sidecar frame OTOH, has been chopped about and welded with great
lumps of birdshit lookalike. Luckily, I can weld (preferably with gas,
but arc will do if necessary), and have some nice tubing and an
    ankle-grinder...

I'll put some more pics up in a while, to demonstrate that there has
been some progress, however slow - the main thing is to get the workshop
    up and watertight.

  6. out of interest, why not just ride it as a bike?

Because, as a result of a spot of hedgingh and ditching on a big Vin, a
later knee-replacement which doesn't bend even to 90°, I would have to
sit on the passenger part of the dual seat to change gear.

I did think of fitting footboards (and when I get the R80 & Berger chair
functional, I might still do so) and moving the gear-lever forwards,
thus making it work properly - i.e., one up and three down...

  8. Just had a go at the paint on the slidecar. (Still haven't got a wheel
    for it...)

The décor was intended to be red, with a black top. The black looks very
like the sort of paint-job East-Anglian clay lump walls get, with a
thick layer of pitch. It's cracked, lumpy and totally 'orrid. I suspect
(because of the cracking, and the way it's crazed) that it might have
been Brushing Belco, on oil-based red paint.

The red softenns nicely with cellulose thinners, but the black doesn't,
which is a pity, as it will need something like a bulldozer to remove
    the thickness there.

Under the red there is quite a nice layer of pale blue, and this _IS_
cellulose. There's a layer of white underneath that.

Next step is to visit a fiend who has a garage/filling-station and get a
    lot of old hydraulic fluid...

Examining the bike, it doesn't seem too difficult to fit the sidecar
frame. I might have to make some fittings, but aforesaid fiend lets me
use his lathe, and I probably have the necessary metric taps and dies.

    Watch this space!
