Took my CX1100 to Wellinborough tonight, to get new 020s fitted. The
mobile fella was fitting tyres to my friends VTR, so I went to get
    mine done too.

When he took the rear wheel off he says "You've got a problem", no
    we've you understand, you've!
The wheel bearing was off to one side and the ball bearing showing -
hmmmm, even to my untrained eye, this wasn't right!
To be fair, the MoT guy did mention that the rear wheel bearings would
need replacing soon - that was 5 months and 5,000 miles ago <blush>

A quick call to Tuppy and he says "Don't ride it or you'll die" a
touch dramatic but I took his advice. So we put the bike back
together, with shiny new boots fore and aft. When we turned the rear
wheel it sounded like a game of Kerrplunk, with the balls falling
    around in the bearing!

It then struck me that I'd just been doing 130 on the Clapham (nr
Bedford) bypass and much the same on the A45............. gulp!

So Scott lends me his spare bike - an American import FZR400 - to get
about on whilst I get Ermintrude sorted. How the hell do you 'sports'
bike riders do it? I've only covered 20 miles and am in need of a
chiropractor! There's sod all rear visibility (look over yer shoulder
my arse!), negligable steering lock and it's sooooooo bleedin small.

On the plus side it will go off the kph speedo - given enough of a
    run-up.

I'm off now to search the interweb, to find the bearing size so that
Tuppy (very nice man, very very nice man) can replace the defective
part and I can get back on a proper bike again.

You're lucky it didn't collapse at speed.

    Indeed.

You can borrow a trailer to bring the bike back home if you need to,
but there's no towcar here till next week.

    My thoughts exactly!

Serves me right for ignoring the problem - harsh lesson learned!
    Thanks

Ta mate, but I expect we'll repair it round Scott's place.

Besides................... I'll be in a wheelchair if I have to ride
that FZR for a whole week! lol

Glad you're OK. I was looking at the Pan wondering exactly the same
thing - how do you *huge* bike riders do it and mention was made of
you. Not that your huge, the bike is - oh you know what I mean.

  11. 6204 is the size, I'm fresh out of them, well, I've got some knackered
    ones, but they wont help.
I'll nip in to Bedford Bearings on the way to work and get a handful.
Its a common size for 'ondas.
I can probably get up to Wellingboro tonight and change it. Did you
    put the wheel back on?
