In all the excitement of my old man keeling over in London, and my
picking him up in the ShiteOldVolvo from the hospital yesterday I forgot
to pay the fucking congestion charge. I called them (no names, no pack
drill) and it's too late now.

Looks like (if they got me on camera) I'm looking at a 40 quid bill.
    Cunts.

I'll try the "look, I thought my dad was dying, I forgot, will you let
me off?" tack. Anyone know if there are *any* human beings in the CC
lot, or are they all faceless, soul-less droids?

Begging letter to them, covered to Ken, your MP and Tony... What you got
to lose (apart from four stamps)

You haven't got to pay if you're picking someone up from a hospital inside
the Congestion Zone. I was exempt when I picked my Dad up last year, but
we paid anyway, because we wanted to.

  7. I don't know about the other poster, but I'd like
to know why you wanted to pay when you didn't
    have to.

I think it's the principled bit about wanting to pay even though you
    don't have to.

    Oh, I see.

We paid the CC because we support the idea, and wanted our five pounds to
appear in the "amount received" column of the accounts, not the
"excemptions" column. So we didn't help the arguments of the detractors.

    Blimey.

You've either got too much money,
    or very high principles.

    Or both.

Well it's only a fiver so it's a couple of drinks in a pub, if that.
    Hardly way too much money.

It is Blaney though, and having met him I'd suggest that it was the
principle that was more important to him.

It's not a lot of dough to support something that one feels strongly
about. A good deal less than the average direct debit to a charity of
    choice, I reckon.

And yeah, principles are important. Where would we be without them?

  13. Actually, I may have been flippant, but
I agree with you. They are important.

I'm sure you're right - I gather he's gone right off the booze since
    the EOSM.
