Hospital letter came through today, I have to go for an Endoscopy. :-( The
leaflet that comes with it makes it sound yucky. Anyone here had on?

Yeah, many years ago. They give you some drugs which, while not
actually knocking you out, mean that you're not really aware of what's
going on, and you don't have any memory of it. So, nothing to worry
    about.

Wimp. I had one without any drugs. *Very* uncomfortable. On second
    thoughts, take the drugs.

Depends where they want to shove it...
I had a camera shoved down my throat and into my stomach, this was far
from pleasant. They were looking for ulcers and found lots :-/

  5. Aye, I had the pleasure a coupla years ago.

Ffs accept the offer of the sedative and the throat anaesthetic.

I took the hard-man approach (didn't want to **** about getting a lift)
and as a result needed restraining (at my request) while the doc did his
fastest inpection, well, *ever* I'd say.

That was the third attempt, mind. The preceding five minutes was spent
wriggling and producing dry retches that made my abs hurt for a week.

They say that once below the throat one doesn't experience any feeling
and I recollect this to be correct.

If the above shit doesn't freak you out then you'll be given the chance
to admire your innards in real time. A bit hardcore for me that.

It's worth checking before he/she starts that the endoscope is the
throat version and not the identical arse version. ;o)

Only kidding, they use the same for both.

I may have imagined it, but I am sure felt the nip as the biopsy
    sample was taken.

  7. To be totally honest I may have to agree <types clutching gut as
    repressed memories flood>

The close-up, extending jaw shot from the Alien movies was burned into
my mind for one week either side of the procedure.

once the gag reflex is over its weird but not painful, just let them
get on with it and its over in 5 mins. Theres nothing to worry about,
the snip biopsy bit feels like a quick sharp cold thing, not really
pain but a sensation you've not had before so you don't quite know how
    to react.

It's not to bad I was up and out in 20 mins after the cup of tea and a
bicky, they do that to make sure you can swallow OK afterwards.

I got a picture here of what it sees if you want to look. Hope yours
aint as bad as mine was.

    It's nice.

A spray of banana flavoured anaesthetic, a Diazepan pill,
a grommet to bite on, and wake up three hours later.

I had one a few years ago and as others have said, if you have the sedative
it's not a problem, just a bit weird.

SO had two (both directions) about five weeks ago. She had the
sedatives and says she didn't feel a thing.

She reckons the fasting and laxatives prior to the cameras were more
    uncomfortable.

Did they meet in the middle, like when they were building the Chunnel?
I bet she says that to all the boys.
    Fasting? Laxatives?

Couldn't you flush the system with a really good curry?

Funnily enough, there's a bloke in work had much of his large intestine
hoicked out. He had plenty of medics' hands up his arse, over an extended
period of time, and he reckoned it was exquisitely painful. I told him if
he'd had a gay doctor, he'd have enjoyed it. I think he was of the opinion
    that he preferred the pain...
