"Moving tributes are being left at the scene of a crash in which a
15-year-old girl lost her life and another teenage girl was put in hospital
    in a critical condition. "

    Further down.. :

Julie Watkins, landlady at the Carpenters Arms, in Middle Barton, said: "If
an accident's going to happen anywhere in this area it's going to happen
there. We get a lot of articulated lorries. They have changed the camber of
the road. It's no surprise at all.
"They should put a lower speed limit on."

    Rather than fixing the road?

On my way out to see friends last night come round a corner to find a
    I am and it is.

I've just spent the last two hours with one of Thames Valley's finest going
through it all in minute detail. At least we have it officially there's
nothing more we could have done at the time which makes me feel a lot
    better.

The girl who died [1] wasn't wearing a seat belt, which had she had one on,
the story may in all probability have had a happier ending.

    [1] Both 15 years old.

They are not optimistic. Hope she's a fighter.
Can't say I noticed an odd camber there, although a bit of prudence with the
beans through there is advisable IMO .

The worst bit apparently is a couple of cars just drove past a minute or two
after it had happened and just kept on going.

I guess being told that the only other option was amputation concentrated
his mind sufficiently to follow doctors orders to the letter. He was
forever cleaning the entry wounds and packed in smoking etc.

Although I just couldn't bare it for more than 9 months, and due to
numerous problems during that 9 months I didn't grow all the length I
    should have.

I keep finding one of those, then it disappears again ;o)
    That's a bit harsh, isn't it?

That's a good age, if only we could all manage to live that long.
Well, apart from being selfish enough to bugger up the Pension payments
    completely, that is.
    Ooh, a step upwards then?
Things aren't too bad, still working in the same place but it's really
not worth moving from there as the pay (for my level of responsibility)
is good, plus they pay my pension for me (although I can top-up should
I wish to do so, which I'll have to think about doing before too long)
and a yearly bonus. If I move elsewhere I'll be worse off financially
and be back under a lot more pressure, which I can live without.

I've got a wedding and a funeral to go to in one day (Friday), all I
need is a christening and I'll have a hat trick.

  11. Almost certainly apophrical but I recall hearing from a traffic cop
about an accident where as the ambulance is on it's way the recovered
biker says 'What about my mate'? Cue a return to the scene to find the
    missing pillion in someone's garden.

    Buzby did scribe:
I was involved in a situation last year, not related to traffic, but
disasterous all the same. At the time I was so involved i didn't
really think about it. A couple of days later someone said something
whihc gave me a flash back and I was a nervous wreck for hours.
Talking about it to people helps, I found.
And let that be a lesson to us all....

  17. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Boots Blakeley
Unfortunately non-apocryphal. I lost two mates in the eighties to a
head-on with a cage[1] driven on the wrong side of the road with its
lights off ("for a laugh") by a fuckwit. The rider was being
unsuccessfully treated at the scene by ambulance guys when someone
turned up who had seen the bike leave the pub we'd been at. "Where's
Gary?...". Gary was in a field some distance away. Dying.

[1] By a curious coincidence, a third friend was a passenger in the car,
    and was also killed.

  20. IF THIS IS THE ONLY POST OF MINE YOU TAKE NOTICE OF

    *PLEASE*

SPEND SOME TIME TO GET SOME FIRST AID TRAINING.

The reason Jane and I did was a friend of mine who was an excellent
carpenter was doing some work for me. I knew he had survived 4 heart
attacks. I went out side to ask if he wanted a cuppa and found him lying
in a heap on the ground. I feared the worst and I DID NOT KNOW THE
CORRECT THING TO DO. While hollering for Jane to phone for an ambulance
he came round. No heart attack, he had knocked himself out with a large
piece of wood and was basically OK.

The fact I did not know what to do and at that time lived in a remote
place (those who came to Peafield Wood know what I mean) Jane and I took
a SJA first aid course. We keep a first aid kit in the house and one in
the car. OK we've let it lapse and we really should do a refresher but
since I have been the first on the scene at two RTA in remote places and
believe I have helped the situation greatly if only by stopping other
well meaning people who arrived after from killing the victims of the
    RTA or them selves.

    PLEASE GET SOME TRAINING, PLEASE.
