There's no flap on the Dimensions but the connectors are recessed and
a bugger to see unless level with them.

No, thanks. The machine appears to be well on the way to recovery. I
seem to have lost audio at the moment, but I'm going to get the 4lb lump
    hammer in a minute.

Take a backup of important files first if you have an unstable system.

Erm, you can't. I think that's the whole point. However in Dell's
excellent design, it's very easy to *attempt* to stick the headphone
jack in the USB socket since they are side by side and difficult to
see unless on one's hands and knees (assuming that the PC is on the
    floor, of course)

This is the usual posture for those running microsoft operating systems isn't
    it?

<looks at Mac G5> Hmm, same here the headphone socket is just above the
USB port on the front panel. Can't say I've had any problem
distinguishing between the 3.5mm round hole, and the much larger oblong
    hole for the USB!

That's a very close YTC# I would say. Certainly forgiveable once, but
    twice.....

Like I said, it's right at the bottom of the front panel, there's
actually an overhang that completely obscures both sockets. So it's
    pretty easy to do.

    Stupid, but easy.

The USB sockets are now disconnected from the motherboard.

Why not just plug an extension lead into one of them?

Because there's a USB hub plugged into one of the sockets on the back.

  16. A lot of Dells don't. The plug from the ATX power supply and the
socket on the motherboard have a few pins swapped round. So,
motherboard cannopt be replaced with an off the shelf one, and ditto
    case.

Simpler to go to the PC fair and get something sensibly prioced.
