    FFS. My old 4.2 XJ6 never got over 14 and the winciest I recall was a
    whole tank for an average of 9mpg. It had a really shit range 'cos
    the other tank had a hole in it ;-)

    Strangely enough, my MD had the 3.2 V8 XJ, and it was quicker and more
    economical. If we were both exercising our size 12 carbon boots by
    both returning from the same meeting in separate cars he would
    invariably phone me through his instant MPG figure before fucking off
    into the distance.

    I think my problem was getting the Jag after a Volvo diesel, which
    averaged 44 no matter how one drove it.

  4. I'm currently using a Citroen C5 diesel estate.
    At 55 to 60mph in 6th gear 50+ mpg.
    Full throttle in the low gears going from 2.5Krpm to 3.5Krpm when the
    variable turbo does its' thing: 9 mpg.

    Braking on the engine going down hill is amusing: 460+ mpg.
