Anything we (myself + missus) really must do when we get there?

Ok, these I can understand. Hmmm ... museums aren't my thing really. If we had more time then I guess we would do this, but maybe not on a short break. These I don't understand though, especially the UN building. Why would I want to go there? I expect the boat tour would be good, but the others I could take or leave without much fuss. I expect it would be "interesting" (for want of a better word) to see Ground Zero, but it wouldn't be high on my priority list of things to really must do.
Depends on whether you like stunning architecture or not. Even if you don't like modern art the Guggenheim is an amazing place just to walk through. They even display Ducati motorcycles in certain exhibitions! The Rockefeller Centre is an amazing piece of architecture - even if you don't go inside then a look around the outside is worth half an hour of your time. You'll be too early for the ice rink and Christmas displays but they are well worth seeing. I force myself to visit museums when I'm off in far away places. The Met was very good and fantastically busy so even the people watching was fun as well. I think it is good to force feed yourself some culture even if normally it's not your bag. so you can see the sculptures including the gun with a knot tied in it as well as the river side view. You can also tour the building. Architecture again I'm afraid. One of my all time favourite buildings - it's simply amazing to look at. Oh and add on Grand Central Station for the ceiling - I kid you not. I really don't understand why you'd go to one of the most photographed and broadcast cities in the world and not actually go to see these places for yourself. You constantly trip over sights and scenes from a myriad of influences - it's part of the New York experience as far as I am concerned but then I like doing stuff like that. Well New York is a world city - you'll never "do" all of it but I think I've picked out some reasonable bits.
Driver, drive faster and make a good run Down the Springfield Line under the shining sun Fly like an aeroplane, don't pull up short Till we brake from Grand Central Station, New York.

Last time I stayed in New York, I arrived after dark and crashed out without even getting something to eat. When I woke up, it was about 8:00AM, bright and sunny, and the Chrysler Building was framed in the window. It was special.

When I was there a while back, I very much enjoyed my visit to something called the World Trade Center, which is even taller than the Empire State. A drink in the "Windows on the World" restaurant is not to be missed. What? Did I say something?
