Heh. It's a big country. I read a few weeks ago that Barcelona is THE place
to buy Havanas in
Europe. They're about 50% of the London price [in the chi-chi St. James'
shops], apparently, which pales even the 25% discount I can score. So, I
thought, Barcelona's on the southern coast of Spain, innit. So, in a few
minutes of selfish down-time available I pondered asking my cousin what
lives in southern Spain to slip along and collect some specified snout, and
haul it back next time he's heading to UK, in return for a gratifyingly
modest exchange of British beer-tokens. So, nicely sorted, thinks I to
myself all smug-like.

Then, a very embarrassingly long period afterwards, I got around to
an objective ponder on just how infinitesimally slight a detour from the
cousin's customary daily round would be involved in this theoretical wander.
I fired up good old www.viamichelin.com. Kinell, 460 miles from his place
in Almeria! I told him to feel entirely free to ask me to just slip up the
road
to Edinburgh to score some haggis from MacSween's.

 

Well, Mallorca is a way from here. It's currently gorgeous where I am.
Best ask Domènec. He's closer than me to Mallorca.

FFS, Des. Talking broadly, Spain has a northern coast and a southern coast
[and, before you say anything, ever such a tiny western coast]. Barcelona's
not inland. It's on the coast. It's not on the north coast, or the west.
It's south of anwhere that's north of it. It's south .... ish. Since
Brother Carmichael had been making point about Spain's size - but, don't
worry, I know France is larger than Spain, tells better jokes that Spain,
speaks better German than Spain and painting ... paf, painting ... France
can paint an entire apartment in one afternoon [two coats] - I was
confirming it by reference to my own [temporary] numptiness.

Depends whether you call the coast running from the southern tip
to the border with France the South or East coast. It's sort of

Why not say Atlantic Coast and Mediterranean coast?

 

Succinct. Or to put it another way Spain has the Costa Brava, the
Costa Blanca, the Costa Del Sol, the Costa de la Luz and the Costa
Verde.

 

Well, it's only Des, y'see. He's French, so it makes sense to recycle other
people's old stuff at will, rather than waste the little grey cells on
drumming up anything original. He just won't recognise the cultural
references, and will be happy simply to have understood the foreign
language. Bloody lazy on my part, I know, but ... well ... it's Friday.
