WTF?
did I wrongly attribute ? who was it then ?
No. I wear plastic 'sports' watches because they're light and, amazingly, tell the time. Current watches: a dual analogue/digital metal Lorus with big luminous (but not not luminous enough) hands and dial [batteries dead] and a Timex Ironman plastic sports watch that's been between 10 and fifteen seconds ahead of my radio-controlled bedside clock for nearly two years with no adjustment. I actually started wondering whether it wasn't radio controlled itself, it's so consistent.
Uh why, what have you done to the poor wee beastie? The service on my Aerospace was almost £300 so I expect you are right. OTOH it's been on my wrist 9 years and the dealer offered 50% of the original purchase price as a trade in. I'm stunned.
Something has come loose inside it the face moves around as it's being worn. I could hold it by the strap and tap my finger on the side of the casing and the face would slowly move. I'm blaming the KTM vibrations rather than the fact that I wear the watch at work where it gets a seriously hard life. The bracelet's also just about falling apart after 10 years of dust and oil being forced into it so that needs replacing.
Don't think so - but I don't see why I'd dislike the above answer. AFAICR I've never expressed a strong opinion about the wearing of watches. Who was what? -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (b.rogers at ifrance.com) \`\ | /`/ `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2, IBB#10 `\|/` `
a couple of months ago, when I said I never wear a watch, someone asked me if I'd ever missed a train (through not wearing a watch) I thought it was you
I've got the bike back but I wasn't too happy with the dealer when I collected it. The first comment was that the speedo cover was cracked (my fault of course) and that was why it had leaked but they'd put the warranty claim through anyway. It wasn't cracked when the bike went back to them. I know that and Adie knows that because I looked at the fucking thing enough times when I was checking to see if it had dried out and I was getting Adie to check it when I was away. We'd have spotted 2 (yes, two of the fuckers) cracks no matter how small they were. He then sparked up my suspicions by claiming that KTM had told him to check for small cracks in the exact place where they were found. Yeah, right. It's a bit convenient when you consider that KTM have recent form for leaking speedo's and tbh if they'd tried to get me to pay for it then we'd have been meeting again in a fucking court. He tried to make out that it might have happened where I park the bike but the only time it's ever been parked up away from the house is at the Black Horse and nobody there would have poked it hard enough with a solid instrument to crack the cover. If I'd broken it I'd have just paid for a new speedo and taken the hit. It wasn't broken/cracked and I don't have a lot of time for cunts that try to cover their arses by blaming me for something I haven't done. Rant over. I still think the bike's great fun and I'll not be getting rid of it over something stupid like a leaking speedo but it'd better not happen again.
I don't understand. The dealer doesn't pay for warranty work. To the contrary, they make money out of it. We can assume some ham fisted apprentice fucked it up therefor. 'Kin 'ell On Yer Bike might be a bunch of cunts but at least their workshop and foreman are straight down the line.
I think they were told to do it by KTM to deflect attention away from a known problem. The speedo will probably go back to KTM and they'd be on the back of the dealer for letting it go through as warranty work if it could be blamed on me.
To be fair to OYB, they sorted my TRX with no hassles when it snapped its crank. Even gave me a courtesy bike.
Sounds like they keep a cracked cover handy to put on bikes when they want to make a few more UKP on a repair.
FFS. why not just own cheaper watches and throw them away and buy new ones when they break? It'd be cheaper.
cos he goes through £50 watches in a matter of weeks. it'll be more cost effective to get his fixed. -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ keeper of the ukrm faq for my sins YZF-R1 : ZX9R E1 : GPz 750 turbo MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
I've tried my hardest to kill my Casio G-Shock. Whacked it around the garage with my son's cricket bat, duct-taped it to the rear hub of my eldest daughter's RM125 then sent her out on track, jumped on it, drowned it...you name it. the fucking thing won't die. It's sitting in the drawer with hardly a mark on it. It's had the same battery for 10 years and still keeps time. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
There wasn't any arguing or bitching. They told me the clocks were damaged and that's why they leaked, both of us told them that they weren't damaged prior to the bike going there. It's pissing with rain right now and I'm tempted to leave the bike outside all day to see what happens.
I tried that and went through three watches costing about £30 in under 12 months. The obvious answer is not to wear a watch at work but I work at a number of places where mobile phones aren't allowed so I could end up working through my tea breaks.
What actually went wrong with them, and how do you think the TAG would have fared under the same conditions?
I work in heavy engineering where a lot of shit and oil gets ground into the watch plus I have to use 2" square drive impact guns on a regular basis which tends to shake the guts out of me let alone the watch. The TAG only goes to a shop when it needs a new battery and I wear it every day it's working. The only other thing to **** the TAG up was shoving it in a magnetic map case on the bike and it went a bit silly after that. Once I'd reset the time and date it was fine.
