Of TS250s and cheap rattle guns

We had a problem on our Audi with a nut that was seized - something to do
with the tracking adjustment on a rear suspension arm.

We took it in several times for them to try and unseize it with no joy -
eventually they showed me the impact driver they were using which was one
    of these:

    http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=27871

Apparently it will easily break peoples arms unless there are two people
    holding it.

Eventually they ended up cutting the suspension arm off to replace it
rather than unseizing the nut. The silly thing was that the replacement
part was about 60 quid and we'd easily spent 4x that in hours of labour for
them faffing around trying to remove the nut.

No need to jam it with a rattle gun, just put it in 1st gear, the
inertia of the engine trumps the impact of the gun.

Except in this case, so far, it has been insufficient to loosen the nut.
I was referring to the brute strength breaker bar option.

Time to take it to a tyre place that does trucks.
They will have a FOAD rattler which will either shift it or wreck the bike.

Just a thought - is the chain on the normal LHS of the bike, if it is
an oddball with the chain on the right the sprocket nut will have a
left hand thread. ISTR Jawa and some MZ have the chain on the right.

  6. Might be wortwhile giving it a jolt in the wrong direction
anyway -- that can sometimes help free a stuck fastener.

If you can't or won't split the fastener completely I've been known to drill
a small hole on one of the flats just into the axle thread and inject
penetrating fluid. Quite nice if you can get the tip of a plastic syringe
body in the hole and leave a head of fluid to seep for the night.

Into bottom gear and the brake locked on? That's worked for me in the
    past.

I've also jammed a piece of timber between the sprocket and the
crankcase before now. That's worked, too.

One of the neatest tricks I ever saw was in Yamaha's Brooklands
workshop, some years ago, when the mechanic was trying to get a stuck
two-stroke barrel off the crankcases. He turned the engine over so
that the piston was at bottom dead centre, took some old webbing -
originally a crash helmet strap, I think - and folded it over two or
three times before stuffing it into the exhaust port. And then he
    stood on the kickstarter.

    The piston rose, jammed into the webbing, and just lifted the barrel;
clear of the cases. No danger of damaging anything. Brilliant.

  9. Wotcha.
A similar result can be obtained on a four stroke by stuffing a washing line
or similar down the spark plug hole.

Normal, with a locking tab washer which has been adequately bashed out
    of the way.

Access to drill is a bit tricky with the motor still in the frame. I'm
just about to give it all another good squirt of penetrating fluid with
a view to a renewed assault in the morning.

    It's off.

Mainly, I suspect, as a result of soaking it in penetrating oil every
day. I would have rigged up a plasticene 'cup' round it to hold a
reservoir if I had some to hand.

Finally succumbed to a standard socket and bar whacked with a Thor
hammer whilst in gear and the back wheel not even jammed.

    clear 'stuff'. No hurry, anyway.
