Des posted a similar link some time ago.

But it's Halfords - "they would say that wouldn't they".

Got mine in the glove box. The satnav bit is interesting. I thought it
was only 'road angel' type things that detected (mobile) speed traps
rather than systems for showing known camera locations that were a no-no
in France. In any case, they give you so much warning of the fixed
cameras you would have to be asleep not to clock them in time.

I picked up a hi-vis off ebay for about two quid. Seems pointless to
hypothesise whether it's needed or not at that price.

Also bought a warning triangle off ebay, two weeks before I'm due to hit
Calais. And has the useless **** of a seller communicated with me in any
way since I paid? Has he ****. I can see 15 quid going to halfords in my
    near future. Bah.

    Next year, son, next year.

Unless I end up going on my own, in which case I probably won't go at
    all.

    Well, exactly. I have a couple of tabards and a full-on Nidge-esque
glow-in-the-dark waterproof coat that I've used when trailering stuff
as it does help when re-strapping on the hard shoulder. I'll just
promote a tabard to the back of the passenger seat when going foreign
    in future.
Online purchasing is a wonderful thing, especially when things come a
bit cheaper. However, the efficiency of the vendors seems to vary in
inverse proportion to the urgency of the requirement. A birthday
present for Elly, for example, arrived this morning. Only a month
late, after two previous attempts allegedly went astray.

I'm undecided, I enjoy the TT, but I want to see more of Europe. I've
got this vague idea a trip to Spain might be a good plan.

AFAIK, it is. As in, the ones that show static cameras are legal.[/QUOTE]

That was my understanding. Thanks for confirming it.

The fact that they'll nick you if you've got the things in the boot of
the car and not actually in the passenger compartment is wanky in the
extreme. What about a hatckback with the load cover removed?

I'm hoping to do the TT, Glastonbury and the Pyreenes next year. But to
do all three I'm going to have to have a chat with my boss about unpaid
leave, so if the TT falls through it's a problem solved.

As discussed here not long ago, the idea is to have it handy so you can
put the thing on /before you get out of the car/ or at least, as you're
alighting. To have it on the back of a seat not only puts it in easy
reach without actually taking up any space, it makes it readily
apparent to Les Flics, even before they pull you - silently passing the
attitude test, which has to be worthwhile.

If you would like to argue the fine points of French Traffic law with a
couple of armed moustaches on the side of an autoroute that's your bag.
I'm all for the easy life, myself.

I tend to agree. Will they make much of it, in terms of extra events, do
    you think ?

Indubitably. I may have to rejig the dates for my spring bank holiday
visit to 'the chateau', as I did in 2007.

Currently even those where people exchange current mobile radar
positions by GSM-based devices (callsed "Coyote" here) are legal(*). Of
course, the Sarkozy-boys are envisioning to make them illegal, but since
they can become an iPhone/Symbian/Android app very easily it will become
very hard for the police to check all mobile devices so this is a lost
    cause for the guvm'nt.

(*) a colleague of mine has got one on his bike, and says it works quite
    well.

When in France, in an UK RHD car, the drivers door opens towards the
kerb, and not the traffic going past. But the French plod presumably
ignore this fact, as opposed to if they had stopped entrangers from e.g
Germany or Spain, in also LHD cars?
