The local dealer suggested I try Mr Honda's very own as a replacement for
the Blackbird. With a bit of discount I can probably get them for c. £130. I
KNOW I can get pattern cheaper but I want a decent DID ZVM and this is
    around the same price.

Dealer suggested genuine parts may be better and that the front sprocket
also has damping rubbers that the pattern kits won't have. Is he telling
    porkies?

Any views on the best option.

    http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/ show £140ish for Renthal
hard-anodised alloy sprockets and a Tsubaki chain, so it
looks like the price is about right.

I'd still go for a named brand of chain, so it comes down
to what you want as the price difference seems negligable.

But how does DID compare with OE?

£130 is a decent price for B/bird C+S. I've used plenty of front
sprockets without damping rubbers and never noticed the difference.

A couple of years ago genuine Honda and Genuine Yamaha C+S kits were
cheaper retail than DID ZVM kits were trade. I know cos I was trying to
    sell dealers DID ones.

Out of interest, what's the difference between ordinary sprockets and
    those for race use?

  6. DID is a better newsreader than OE. Next question?

I've always been really happy with DID ZVM. If DID is fitted as standard
then it's not usally that high a grade, normally just VM.

Race ones weigh less, but have shorter lives.

I've actually found pattern sprockets last longest of all, and I can get
them for about £6 a go.

Buying sprox is a long way off but that's good to know.

Can you get chains as cheaply? ;-)

  12. For that price, buy OE.

Currently using kawasaki ones on the XJR. Cheaper than Yam (28k from
original), cheaper than pattern (less than 10k), seems good so far (6k).

OE Yam front sproket does have damper, and TBH I notice the diff and may
switch back to OE next change
