G'day, I am restoring an early Yamaha moped scooter, just about finished but
    having no luck finding tyres.

    They are 2.25 X 14 inch 4 ply

Have tried a couple of dealers, and even pushbike shops with no luck.

Anyone got possible leads where I may find them??

(I can get them in the US, but $20 a tyre with $90 freight each, hoping to
    find in Aus)

    Thanks

Those _are_ certainly odd sizes, oh, it's for a moped....OK.

Dealing with the US postage system is kind of exe. :-(

I got my last set of tyres for the Z50 sent from England. Can't
remember the exact money, but it was a lot better than the US shipping.

You could also try Japanese on-line shops, they aren't too ridiculous
    on postage either.

    OTOH, you could look at
    http://www.teammoto.com.au/xcart/product.php?productid=17284&cat=0&page=1
and live with block pattern tyres.
