Odd behaviour from my ZZR1200

    Greetings,
I've noticed a bit of a 'hesitation' on acceleration with my
ZZR1200. If I've been cruising along at ~100 for a while, then wind the
throttle on, it hesitates before accelerating cleanly. It only does it
after I've been sitting at a constant speed for a while though. If I try it
again immediately, no dead spot at all. Just clean acceleration from the
moment I wind the throttle. Anyone care to have a guess at what this might
be? These are a non FI bike, for those of you who weren't aware of it.

    Thanks,
    MrBonk

Oh god no. I had exactly this problem with the Ninja. Wasted nearly a grand
getting it diagnosed (Thanks for nothing MTM pricks) and then I finally got
it diagnosed the mechanic put it under an oncoming car. The mechanic was
quite keen to tell the boss from the hospital that he had fixed the fuel
problem, and was sorry he had written off the bike.

Its definitely fuel, although when dealing with my crashed bike the fuel
problem didn't get too much of my attention I'm afraid. He said something
about the carbies being out of balance, and that two plugs were too rich and
    the others too lean.

    Hope you have more luck.

Similar problem with my piece of shit.
It ended up being fuel freezing up in the hoses!

Nice work......are they providing you with a replacement bike?

I had been wondering about carb balance. I read about that somewhere
recently, but can't remember where. I was going to drop in at the bike shop
this afternoon but didn't get home from work in time. Might take a spin in
there tomorrow and see what they have to say about it.

    Ciao,

Hey, I was never a WRX 'owner'. About the most I 'owned' on that thing was
the tyres......maybe the wheels as well.....the frikkin' bank 'owned' the
    rest.......

How bizarre that a problem like this should still exist on a modern machine!
I've never had this on any of my other bikes over the years though.

    What was the solution?

A colonoscopy would have found your problem.

The Genuine SHITBOX accessory that runs oil lines to your carby float
bowls to heat the fuel when it gets there.

Remember its not a quality bike, just a heap of shit in all reality

  16. I'd go with carb icing as it is a Kwaka, have had two mates with
Kwakas (ZX9R and ZXR750) with icing problems.

  18. My ZZR1200 would do this occasionally as well - but only in cold
temperatures with a degree of humidity. I put it down to icing. After a
service (read carbie balance) - the problem was less pronounced but not
    gone.

Since then Ive picked up some after market pipes and never had a problem
with it. Could just be the excuse you need to get some bastard
trumpets and release the aural beauty the Zed possesses. And those who
have heard the ZZR1200 unleashed .... and you know who you are :p...
will attest to the fact that it is a sound made by the gods themselves.

    :)

Everyone seems to be saying the carb icing, which I'd probably agree
    with.
If this was a car thread, I'd ask if the accelerator pump on the carby
    was working.

Do bike carbies run accelerator pumps? (in which an extra jet provides
a momentary blast of fuel when the throttle opens quickly)??
