I'll almost certainly be over, it clashes with my bosses 50th birthday
party and Adie's away somewhere sunny so I've nothing better to do.

I know that feeling. I keep trying to find out when other folk are

  8. You could pop around for a drink at my place. I live just down the road.

By the way, at the moment it's anything but sunny on the penninsular.

Down the road? Must be the best part of 500 miles, no?
28degC and partly cloudy in Lisbon today, according to the interwebby.
That'll do for me. I'm much more concerned with what it's gonna be
like in the Adriatic off Croatia for the next coupla weeks...

I've been out there twice in mid-September. Once was hot, 25-30C and
sunny every day, with 5 days having a F4-5 Northerly kick in. Another
time was 18-22C with a mix of sun, cloud, rain, fantastic thunderstorms,
and only 2 days of decent wind.

Strangely, the wind appeared to die off during the rainy spells. Kind of
    like a reverse squall.

Oooh, ooo - any advice/recommendations please? I gather it's mostly
marinas around there, but I'm always up for more remote places and
don't mind anchoring off if it's worthwhile...
    Sounds perfect.
Well I'm not so fussed about having strong winds, given my
still-not-100% fit state - this is more about cruising around and
having a good time in the evenings. Really I just don't want to be
cold & wet, although as we're there for 14 days I suspect we'll get a
bit of everything at this time of year.
Come across that in the Ionian as well, often related to the catabatic
effects of all the peaky islands.

Note: I was land locked, and "up North", near Split.

There are lots of marinas, and probably every decent village has one. I
couldn't tell you how busy they were, except that Split was heaving, as
you'd expect for the main town in that area.

For peace and quiet, head out to the islands. Brac(h) has a couple of
busy-ish towns, but also has a lot of coves inaccessible by land. Hvar is
picture perfect, and probably has more coves.

I've heard Korc(h)ula is *very* nice, but didn't get down there.
Hmmm a good time for me is a quiet meal and bottle of vino. For this,
there are plenty of places to choose from, basically in the main towns on
    the islands.

Split was too big for my liking, but about 30 minutes (drive) South, there
was a quaint village where they light the mountain cliffs up at night.

For partying, then Split is the best place.

Of course, there's bound to be places South in Dubrovnik and the Southern
    islands as well.

Me too, except for 'bottle' singular. Unlee they do ****-off big
    bottles there.
Best avoided then. In any case, although we're flying in and out of
Split, we pick up the boat at Murtur, some distance away. I don't
think we'll be doing much more than the harbour villages and towns
themselves, TBH, and I'm sure they'll be great.
    Won't get down there, I don't think. We're sort-of with a flotilla
who'll be sticking to a more limited area, but in any case you don't
really want to be getting much more than 50 miles away from base,
otherwise you can leave yourself far too much work to do getting back
if the weather turns. Typically, we'd normally only do 15-20 miles a
day between ports - more actual sailing distance, of course.

  16. Ok. It's currently sunny in País Vasco and Galicia. The rest of the
penninsular is suffering storms - including down here. My bike, car and
patio are all coverd in sand (comes with the rain).

S'wot I was planning to do. I'll probably dump my van at Heysham power
station and do the foot passenger bit but it's all dependant on my
present job being finished and the inspectors keep finding more
shagged pipework and failed welds. The fucking welders are about as
much use as a chocolate teapot.
