I apologize for the Off Topic post but I know that some of you ride and live
in the UK. I am going to England, Wales and Ireland soon and wanted to know
if the cell phone charger that I have for US cars (fits in the cigarette
lighter) will work in the rentals that we will get on our trip. I have a
wall adapter and a power converter for UK but would like to know if the car
    adapter is compatible.

I know that in the past the British cars had a positive ground power system
but I assume that today with the cars being sold all over that things might
have standardized in the last 30 years.

    TIA

  2. Short answer: it'll be fine (I've used a French-bought battery charger
in French(!), British and Canadian vehicles without any problems).
Anyway, I don't think there is such a beast as a "British" car anymore :)

You'll have to check that your cellphone will work in Europe. Our GSM
systems work on a different frequency to North American ones.

GSM should be OK, but if the OP has a CDMA phone which is far more
common in the US compared to GSM, this will not work in the UK.

Cigarette lighter socket chargers will work fine, I use my UK ones in
    the US with no problem.

    Mark,

Thanks for the feedback, when I used to have british cars (1967 austin
healy) it was a problem so I thought I'd check. My phone is compatible with
UK and Ireland and I have already had AT&T turn on international roaming.

Nah, the positive earth systems went out of fashion here decades ago.

Based on the car I looked at yesterday, yes.
