Showing your (lack of) age JL! :) I remember playing with
Win 1.0 (it was the same day that I took 45 minutes to figure
out how to delete a on a Mac. Who'd of thought of dragging
the bloody thing to the 'trash' can? Indeed!)

Well that brings back some memories. Microsoft's logo has aged well. It must
have been quite 'snazzy' in the mid-80s.

Yeah I can remember that bit of apple puzzlement, but seriously don't
tell me someone actually bought windows 1.0 ? Sucker.

(who was playing with the computers that had silly names like Sinclair
ZX80 and TRS80 before the PC became particularly available, so yes I am
old enough, I never really thought that windows thing would catch on,
why buggerise around with a mouse when you have a perfectly good command
    line)

I remember a friend's mother had a state of the art 286 running Windows
1.something. The computer cost close to five grand which made it a pretty
expensive word processor. She couldn't upgrade to the next version of Windows
because that computer had DR-DOS installed and the new version of windows
    required MS-DOS to be installed.
A friend had the ZX-81.. that was pretty good for... ummm... something... I
guess. Never did play with the TRaSh-80 but they must have been popular
because of the number of dedicated TRS-80 mags available in the newsagents at
the time. Most people I knew went straight for the Vic-20 or the C=64. I
always thought the Apple ][e would be the path home computer users would
    follow.

There was. I had Windows V.1.1, on a DEC Rainbow, and it _nearly_
    worked..... :-|

I can't remember if the one I had on the Apricot Xen was 1.1 or 1.25

It worked reasonably well but the Xen was a very high spec machine for
    its time.

Check out the new MacMini then. A brilliant idea I reckon., and I don't
normally have any time for Macs...

  10. And then once you've worked out the "dragging to the trash" means
"delete", you then have to work out how to eject the floppy disk...

You push the little button under the floppy hole of course.

Isn't that how you do it on all computers?

  13. Anyone else remember where Apple put the power shitch on the powermac
    6100s? ;-)
Well, come on, if I was a newbie Mac user, what would I know about
floppy disks??? (it was, what '98 or '99 or so when Apple started
shipping machines withut floppy drives, the Blue G3's were the end of
    the floppy line from memory...)

Was that the one you had to ctrl -apple -delete or something similar to
turn it on and off ?

  17. Nope, thats the one where the power switch was just below the floppy
drive slot, precisely where pc users would expect to find an eject
    button...

(who remembers at least once frantically saving all open docs while
still holding the "eject" button in but before releasing it after
remembering _almost_ soon enough which machine I was working on... It
was made even more complex because I had the 6100 dos compatible which
had a 486/66 card in it so sometimes it _was_ a windows machine...)

No they won't. They're same old, same old Apple games.
At first sight, the tiny little box with the AUD$799.00
looks really attractive! "Finally!" you say, "an affordable
    Mac".

Then you look a bit closer and realise that the AUD$799
doesn't get you a useable computer and that once you
add memory and hard disk of realistic sizes, along with
a few other litte 'standard' features like wireless
networking and maybe bluetooth (tho I remain unconvinced
as to the usefulness of bluetooth), then you're really
right back the same old *expen$ive* Apples that we've
    seen since high school.

A *useful* Mini Mac is actually around AUD$2500+, so
it's really no different to any Mac we've seen before.

G, really dissapointed - I would have bought one, or
two, if they were *really* $799

Er, no. It's rather a more significant walk of faith
    on a Mac.

G, "OK, keep your stinking floppy disk then, there's no
way I'm dragging it to *there*"
