My Samsung laser printer is getting to the end of its life and I wanted
    a replacement.

I know that many "cheap" lasers have limited life cartridges so the cost
of the Lexmark I was looking at ,(Brother was another), was effectively
£295 plus 4 cartridges at about £65 a pop. To his credit, the sales guy
said there was just enough toner in to get the printer going (!).

I've been searching around and have a feeling I did see some printers
that came with a reasonable amount of toner (about half-life - 500 to
700 pages) but can't remember where I saw it.

Is it a direct cost related issue in that a higher price means you will
get a reasonable first charge of toner? Or are you just a richer sucker
    ready to be fleeced

    Any direct experiences?

    TIA

I bought an OKI a couple of years ago, found it was jamming after a
year and freecycled it. I went onto ebay and for £72 bought a Dell
5110cn. It has a duplexer, is fast and has a good reputation. The
black and yellow has only 10% left, but that's still in the riegon of
500 pages. In fact we've put 500 through since we bought it in the
summer and it still says 10%.

So, I reccomend a used, high spec printer if you can get it cheap like
    this.

I thought some Dell's might be re-badged Epsons? The cartridges for the
Dell we have at work with the rotating locks at the end look like some
Epson ones I saw at Staples. This Dell has been good but the plastics
are a bit fragile on the various covers you have to open to clear jams.

I'll certainly look again at them.

my sample of one says the little Samsung is a good un. It has done a 3 year
BSc course and is working its way through an MA now, after a 4 year gap.
No idea what they do now, but the ML1210 came with two print cartridges,
both about half full i.e. 1500 A4 sheets rather than the standard 3k. Most
Samsung toner cartridges are refillable too.

Whenever I have bought HP 2600n printers they seem to come with a full
set of toners, at around £170 - £200. New carts come in from £50-65.
Remanufactured from £35 (bigpockets.co.uk do decent ones). Get approx
    2500 sheets on B&W printing.
Print quality is good enough for property displays in an estate agents
    window.

Samsung's products are fine. Their attitude to their customers sucks
    though.

    In communiqué
More specifically IIRC, in your case, their customer service is if
    something goes wrong.

Whereas, IME LG's is fantastic ;-)

    <Tongue In Cheek Mode>
Perhaps a general rule that the more reliable your products usually are,
the more shite your customer service can be. Whereas, if you get a shit
load of complaints you need a good returns system.

Wot he said - one ML4500 and one CLP500, both currently running on
refills from topuptoner.co.uk. As an added bonus, their support line
spent a load of time helping me get the CLP500 running with linux.

Actually, maybe this is like the microwave thread: anything you want as
long as it was designed and built some years ago?

Keep telling me about that. I've got a defective 24" LCD that I need to
return to them in order to get it fixed...

Best of luck mate, any company which calls their customer service dept
"Voice of the Customer" and then displays total indifference and
arrogance can only be a total shower of cunts.

    More like:

Me "Your product has developed a fault. I reallyb like the product,
    could you sort it please?"

Them "Our products don't go wrong"

Me: "This one has, can I have a replacement please?"

Them: "Our products dont go wrong, we'll call you back"

    Some weeks later...

Me: "Erm, about this faulty product"

Them "Look mate, our products don't go wrong and our service is great,
    so just **** off, eh"

    Great

I bought a s/h LaserJet 4M from my old company about 5 years ago; it's
still on it's original cartridge and works like a dream. Worrabout doing an
ebay thing to get a s/h HP?

Sounds like those cunts at Aria who I'd never use again for much the
same reasons. Which coupled with how fucking useless barclaycard were
reminding me why I'd dumped them initially years before just made the
    whole experience.

It seems, whatever you do, you can't dump Barclaycard. Bunch of useless
cunts as you say. I now have 2 Barclaycard accounts because they took over
smaller outfits. Both accounts had reasonable T&Cs with reasonable cashback
or reward schemes, until about 6 months after Bcard took over.
