I can only presume that they didn't ride every day out of those 35,
and that the sentence should have read something like "on a typical
days's riding they covered 1000 miles".

    It's shit.

I reckon it's do-able in about 15 days without too many problems.

They got lost and spent 10 days heading in the wrong direction?

apart from, perhaps, a prolapsed rectum.

I see they're on an R1150GS, which is probably a good choice for the
task in hand. I do hope they had it serviced twice by authorized BMW
dealerships during those 15000 miles, mind you!

To be fair to them, the roads were probably less than ideal for a fair
    bit of the trek.
I wouldn't be quite that confident.....

1000 miles on most days riding, Im assuming they weren't sticking to the
speed limits then? I managed over 1k when I went to germany and that was
with the fazer pinned at 140 all the way there.

  12. Yeah, I was thinking that, isn't the speed limit about 50 in most US
States? Makes for a fucking dull month if you *do* stick to the speed
    limits!

Who taught you maths? To be pedantic (and why not?) it should be 9.5 days in
the wrong direction but allowing for rounding errors....

Nope, 5 days in the wrong direction, then 5 days in the "right"
direction getting back to where they got lost in the first place.

Assuming same rate of travel after the "I told you this was the wrong
    way..." moment.

Yes but at 1000 miles per day thats only 10000 miles whereas a 35 day
    journey is 35000 miles. 35k-16k is ?

Errm, 19k, errm 9.5 days in wrong direction before the "ITYTWTWW"
    moment.

    <shuffles feet, looks at ground>
I promise I will read posts correctly and use pencil and paper to
check any figures that I haven't read and understood properly.
