Right, so everyone with more money than sense has now read DiRE's July issue report of what happened when they put three (alleged) bikers on two disguised CBR 600s .... And two of 'em both overestimate the speed big time (think they're at the ton - true speed 70 (42% out) and "oooohh must've been ton20" - true 76 (58% out?)).. Icing on the cake was the two that actually ride CBR600 s both think one of the new CBRs is an SP2 in disguise. (What? Are they *deaf* too? Or just very very .......). The third guy a CB 500 rider overestimated it too but not by so much (he went faster too). Well that got me thinking. If you don't keep an eye on the clock do you: (i) actually go faster or slower than usual and (ii) do you think you're going faster or slower than you really are. So I tried it this weekend. Saturday I was really enjoying my ride, in the groove sort of thing. And was underestimating almost as badly as the guys I'd though were muppets had overestimated. "I think I'm doing... no don't look ... its about mmm 70. Oh 95" etc.. and "That's normally an 80 mph series of sweepers so should be about 80 then and its ....... oooh fk just under 110" at the exit. Did I just do that. Um". Sunday and I'm not so much enjoying it, just sort of there, mundane. And the estimates are correct within 5mph.. So beyond discovering the male menopause really does fk over your hormones, I think there's something sort of interesting to be discovered here but I'm not quite sure what. Will you all please rush out, try this and post up what happens ;-) Thank you. -- Nidge ZX6R J2 Stunning in zit yellow. KX 125 MX 'I'm snot green -fly ME'. If I'm trundling on long straight a roads/mways I usually end up about the speed limit. I suppose "about the same", but I don't usually think "I'm going at X mph". It's usually "I could be going faster for this corner" or "oops - I'm going too fast for this corner".
I usually underestimate what the Triumph is doing because it's so grunty and relatively low-revving. The Duke - I can estimate to within 5-10mph, simply by the feel of the engine. I'm on the Benly today. Anything over 50 is "fecking quick".
