I didn't have you down as a fan of Roman Showers.
You know, I think this requires a more scientific approach. I'll do it.
Now there's an idea. I wonder if it'd be strong enough to open a bottle
    of beer.
    Steady on.
Well, there is more than one opening...

You know how it works though - you'll most likely have most of UKRM
with you because they missed the actual boat.

Even then you'll arrive a few hours before the rest of us - I'm fully
expecting to be overtaken by at least one ZX-10R doing 100mph faster
    than I am.

Not far. It's where you, me and Mike stayed the night before we got to
Chimay last year. Out of town opposite the railway station. TOG's
hotel seems to be just the other side of the marshalling yards.

I find www.viamichelin.com does some excellent route mapping (and it's
    clear).

There is a road just north of Sedan that looks... interesting. It's
marked scenic and appears to be somewhat bendy.

Slight tangent - anyone know where I can get the actual Michelin maps
for France from? I find the "scenic route" information very helpful and
the maps are very clear - will have a look in Waterstones etc, but if
    anyone knows of a place...?
Excellent - if only Sweller was going - the evening events would have
    been even better.

dwb () gurgled happily, sounding much like
    they were saying :
Stanfords, Long Acre. If you can find 'em *anywhere* in this country,
    that's the place.

Dunno why, but I always prefer mappy.
There are indeed some lovely roqads just there - I'm guessing you're
referring to the N819, which is the route we took from Sedan to Chimay
last year - up the N58/N89, then left onto the 819 through Rochehaut,
    Montherme, Revin. Superb road.
I'm sure you'll be able to get them, but if not drop us an email and I
can pick some up for you and post them over.

radarfalle.de has all european countries in a variety of download
formats form most GPS systems. About 10Eu to join, which is money well
    spent, IMO.

Aye, it was all on holiday. We didn't go down the road that TOG's
hotal is on, but the one we stayed at was OK, although there was ****
    all else around there.
Funny, I don't remember it being particularly hot that day. Even when
we were pissing about trying to find petrol in Longwy[1]. Mine dew, a
_long_ it certainly was. Too many nice bits of road to do en route...

[1] Hint: if you're in a French town trying to find petrol, see how
close it is to the Luxembourg border. If that's within ten miles,
there will be no petrol stations in the French town _at_all_. Not one.

Popped down to the Books Etc at lunch time and they had a full range.
I found the 4xx range too detailed - hard to pick out a route - so I
got a couple from the 5xx range and from the 7xx range for Northern
    France.

Slight moment of idiocy when I forget where the 'ring is... but I
sorted that out by having a quick look in a Formula 1 book :)

Seem to have been mischarged too as I got them all for ?3 - still, not
    complaining.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if some people aren't even aware it's
    not in France...

I certainly don't expect all those going on the Saturday to have
considered a map may be useful.

I believe it's near Bonn, but I could well have the wrong one :)

Can I infer from this discussion that a) you're talking about the
Nurburgring and b) there's a plan to go on to there during of after
the Sedan trip? If so, what's the plan, stan?

The plan (such as I have seen of it) is for aanyone who chooses to
participate to head to the Nurbugring on the Saturday, ride it and
return to Sedan for the evening frivolity.

    And why not.

Weren't you supposed to know? Whoops.

WUN mentioned awhile back that the 'Ring happens to be open on the
Saturday (I think) we're over there so it seemed only sensible to take
a hike over the border to pay it a visit.

That said I'm not entirely sure a PLAN had formed, rather than everyone
saying "yeah great idea lets do it".

Certainly, looking at the map, whilst it's not far from Sedan, it's not
    exactly two minutes away either.

    That's about all, paul.

heh. It just slipped out, right?
Mappy puts it at 260km/ 2H39 away, so it's quite do-able there and
back in a day, with a couple of laps in the middle.

This is sounding good, when is it again?

    <checks ukrm calendar>

Bugger, the in-laws are flying over that weekend. Shit.

Yeah I just looked at the route - 261km (2 hours 39 minutes) and that's
almost 2 hours on the motorway. Will need the laps to make the tyres
    round again.

Going to be quite a lot of km in a few days really - 500 odd km to
Sedan, the same back plus another 600 odd going to the 'Ring and back.

How the hell the alcoholics are going to manage it I don't know.
Weekend of the 27th of May... just tell them to reschedule :)

You're joking, right? Go to www.mappy.co.uk, type in Sedan, France in
the From: and Nurburg, Germany in the To: fields and press enter.
I'll have a chat about it. They're coming over on the Wednesday, I
think, so maybe I can get the Saturday off and meet you boys at the
ring - about 4 hours from here. But this could be a bit delicate so I
    wouldn't bet on success...
