Number plates

    What was the cut-off date for black numberplates? A 72 Commando has come my
    way L reg is it eligible.

    Vehicles *constructed* before 01/01/73 can carry black plates.

    22/9/72. I think it makes a SOB stand out, gives it a clear identity of
    shiteness. It will of course attract the "I used to have one of them"
    brigade, although the genuine really did have one punters are generally OK.

  4. True, but there's a subtle point here that when new in the early 70s,
    everyone went for the yellow (and white, where appropriate) plates as they
    were then the latest thing and made the point that you had a new motor.

    friend of mine has a 1970 Imp, with yellow-and-whites, and was wondering
    whether to put black-and-silver ones on and decided not to on this basis.

    My 1971 lard rover has black ones though, 'cos I could...
